Hi all

I was wondering if anyone had any tips! My OH and I have been doing SW for a few months and follow the extra easy plan. I love having veg and fruit but my OH refuses point blank to eat fruit and will only each veg if it's been boiled to within an inch of it's life!!!!

At the moment we are eating a lot of Chilli/spaghetti Bol/lasagne/goulash and Chilli beef noodles as I can put onions (fried to their death with fry light) and some peppers in to try to get veg into him

I'm really conscious that we aren't having our 1/3 plateful of veg tho.....or does the veg ADDED to the meal count too???

If anyone has any suggestions on how to add the superfree food to a meal please please can u let me know

Cheers

The veg added to the meal definately counts aslong as it superfree veg :)

Could you puree the veg & add that to whatever you are making. Or if OH still isn't too keen why not try a green or red day as a change & see how that fits in with OH.

I have same problem but as Happy Holidays said I put him on red days has he likes his meat :) he will only eat peas, carrots and sweetcorn lol

I agree with the others. Purée the veg and add it to a sauce but dint tell him. It works on children too...oh and my hubby :)

I just make the same dinners for us both, but will do boiled frozen veg for me and he will sort out his own beans or peas etc.

Yes the vegetables added to a recipe do count towards your 1/3 superfree.

But I am puzzled that you say that "I love having veg and fruit" and then say "I'm really conscious that we aren't having our 1/3 plateful of veg tho".

If you like vegetables and fruit and he doesn't, then you should prepare them for yourself and eat them. If he doesn't want to eat them, that is his decision. By all means encourage him, but at the end of the day he is an adult and it is up to him.

i have to agree with anna.

im so glad my OH isnt like this though...it must be frustrating!

Not having an OH but living with my family my rule is if you're not going to eat what I cook you get your own. My sister especially is very fussy with veg, always asks me to leave stuff out and my answer is always no, if she doesn't want to eat it I won't force it down her throat but i'm not cooking anything else.

xx

I hide veg in my meals. Courgettes are brilliant - they pick up the taste of the tomatos so are great cut up small in chillis and bolognese.

I am fussy with veg which is why I have mainly followed red days. What about soups then blend the veg?

My sister employs this tactic with her OH - who won't even eat onions in a spag bol. He ends up eating Spam and Egg most days as its the only thing he can cook.

My OH is not following SW rigidly, so he doesn't follow the 1/3rd superfree rule as closely as me (git still manages to loose though). On a good day I usually add some mixed veg to my plate whatever I'm eating, or have a side salad and eat less of the main meal, no matter how much superfree is in it. That way I don't have to worry about how much superfree is in the meal itself. Sometimes its difficult to figure out if its 1/3rd or not otherwise.

I agree, sometimes it is difficult in a meal like chilli and rice, or spag bol as you cant actually physically see the third in a section on your plate!

I would say go red and green, that way you don't have to have your fruit and veg, it would still be handy but not detrimental not to x

My probably not very helpful answer is either he can make his own dinner, or like others suggest puree or grate veg into the meals, he'll never be able to tell I think!! I hate corgettes but appreciate their value - I grate them into various dishes, I honestly can't taste them at all.

I FEEL YOUR PAIN!!! :(
I'm 21 and for years I only would eat carrots for veg! It's only in the last few years (thanks to yummy SW recipes and a little encouragement from my mum) that I tried new veg. Now I LOVE peppers! I eat courgettes, salads, tomatoes, mushrooms, peas, sweetcorn etc etc. I love to pile my spag bols with mushrooms and onions........ BUT I'm now in a relationship with an amazing fella who DOESN'T like veg. I mean, he eats carrots and peas. The sight of a salad gives him the sweats lol. And onions and mushrooms are a no go... Nooooo!!

When at my mums, she will cook a yummy veg-ful meal for me, her and my dad and will make a veg-free meal for him! But I can't do that at his house. He has a tiny kitchen, sharing with 4 other people... the less time I spend in there the better. So i find I miss out on my veg then :( (hopefully this will change next month when he moves to a bigger house with less people?!)

I found out yesterday that he eats vegetable soup. Leeks, potato, carrots... I was shocked... apparently if the veg is SOFT then he doesn't mind it. It's all about texture. He ate mushy peas (which In my opinion look GROSS!) So i may have made a breakthrough yesterday lol!

Good luck with your picky OH's guys :) my one does get alot of stick from me, and i tend to dominate what we are eating and when... but when i'm a skinny minny 2.5 months im sure he will be thankful lol!
