Hey all,
Going shopping tonight and am sticking to the original plan. I just wondered if anyone had any finds/tips/likes/low syn stuff that you would recommend I get. I'm terrible at shopping and end up buying stuff that I cant eat on my diet so trying to make a list before I go! Lol. Xxx

Hi!

I do ee days so im not sure exactly what to tell u to get, but i now do my shopping online, i find i buy less, i buy more healthy foods and i can refer to the slimming world website on another page whilst im online! just a tip xxx

Why would you buy stuff you can't eat?

If you're doing Red then you need to be buying plenty of meet....Extra lean mince, steaks, chicken, bacon, ham etc

You should also be buying lots of fruit & veg!

No not intentionally buying things I cant eat but its the temptation then I realise when I get home its not 'diet friendly'. Yeah I will be buying loads of meat and fruit and veg, just wanted to see if anyone had any particular finds or something that is free. Like for instance I didnt realise that the ASDA lamb shanks in gravy are free or 3 syns depending on the type of gravy! Wow!

When you go shopping make sure you have eaten something and not go when your hungry!

Pasta and sauces and baked beans are cheap and normally on offer in Asda

If you want to spend make sure it is on clothes or non-food realted unless SW. If I am desperate I get frnch fries (4.5) or a pot of fruit, at least then I can stay on track.

If you are following original days then

plenty of lean meat and fish
fruit and veg

I like roasted veg - peppers, courgettes, onions with salmon or chicken breast, I also eat a lot of Butternut squash, usually roasted as a substitute for potatoes .

ryvitas, alpen lights for HEb's low fat cheese or Babybel / laughing cow lites for HEa's

there was a thread a few days ago asking for ideas for shopping lists, will see if i can find it for you

good advice on eating before you go shopping

I try and plan the weeks evening meals before I go and then write the shopping list based on that, takes a bit of time but is worth it. I also agree that shopping on line helps and don't shop when you are hungry.

I like asda`s smartprice chunky sliced chicken great to have in the fridge to snack on when i get in from work.

birds eye frozen beef in gravy is free, asda vacuum packed, chilled lamb shank in mint gravy (not extra special) 1syn, asda do loads of fish steaks that you cook from frozen; cod, salmon, tuna.
fresh crabsticks, ham
Eggs are a big bonus...Get through loads of them, and at the moment freerange large £2.88 dozen or £4 fir 2dozen?
the smartprice plain lf cottage cheese is free, quark and their own ff fromage frais are also free.
Tonight I had roasted butternut squash, makes a nice change from potatoes (and free)
That's all I can think of at the mo - based on red

I always stock up on Fishsticks/crabsticks, prawns and those lobster tails (not real lobster but only £1 a packet) - all great and free on original/extra easy.

A seafood salad is a good change from egg/cheese/ham/chicken etc.
