How would you feel

if someone doing a VLCD was going to your class to get weighed.

Ive know of someone doing that very thing and who hasnt told the SW consultant so theyll believe that theyre doing SW but will be having VLCD losses.

They also feel that as they are sticking to their diet all week theyre entitled to SOTW awards....

I know what my thoughts on this are.... what are yours?

I've come across this before and told the consultant..it's then up to the consultant to decide what to do with the information at the end of the day then. I also had a "friend" who was getting fantastic weight losses each week and she eventually told me that she was taking a certain drug to loose weight....needless to say we parted company and I went to a different class. This was after I told her that she was cheating herself.

All i feel is that in class when people do have amazing losses, everyone is in awe of them and people want to know what they do to achieve that. I also know from class and on here that some people do compare themselves unfavourably to people with the bigger losses, and sometimes 2 pounds a week is poo-poo-ed as a rubbish loss. Its like if they can lose 8, what am i doing wrong to only lose 2?! I would also be miffed if they lost sotw all the time.

On the other hand, they obviously feel they need the support and structure of a class, and afterall they are paying like everyone else for that support. Regardless of the particular diet, the mindset and challenges of losing weight are all the same. I dunno, i guess its the thing about sotw is what i would have the biggest gripe about!

I dont have an issue with someone going to a slimming class to get weighed so long as the class leader is fully aware of whats going on. On a VLCD you can expect to lose 3/4 lbs a week compared to 1/2 on SW I think when I went to classes Id have been getting totally demoralised seeing someone with high losses week in, week out.

Why youd want to put yourself through a class when youre on a VLCD listen to food talk, taster sessions mind you I cant imagine.

Like I said I have no issue with someone going for the discipline of a weigh in every week but I do have issue with them passing off their losses as SW ones and taking SOTW/M awards etc

I'm not a big lover of SOTW myself, but if i thought someone was getting it each week under false pretences i would be annoyed. I also don't really get the point of going to group when you aren't following SW - you aren't gonna get anything out of image therapy & it srems an expensive way of weighing yourself.

Basically, i just don't get why you'd do it!

I think there are two issues here. One is how I personally, as an individual, would feel, and frankly I wouldn't care. I don't compare myself with other people, and I don't care about awards like SOTW.

BUT, that's just me. And it is obvious from posts in this and in other threads that there are a lot of members who would look at other people and worry that they are not losing as much as them, and might feel that their efforts are not worth much.

I think that this person should be encouraged to be honest, and have it explained to her that her actions could be affecting other people in a bad way. We can't just all go round doing what we like and not caring about the effect it has on other people.

If she won't be honest, then I think I would mention it to the consultant. It would rather depend on the relationship I had with the consultant - I know mine rather well.

I starting reading this thinking it wouldn't bother me, maybe seeing the numbers on the scales would be official rather than some naff scales they might have at home. Then, when the awards were mentioned I thought about it a bit more. I go to SW because I want to lose weight. I stay to the meetings because I want and need the support. I love hearing about everyones losses and sharing recipes, we have a good laugh at our group and everyone always sits with someone different every week. I don't go for the SOTW/M awards. I go for MY 1/2st, 1 stone, Club 10 awards. That said, if I thought someone was winning every week and taking things away from the legitimate members I'd feel cheated and I'd TOTALLY say something to the consultant. I think she'd want to know too.

Also, like AnnaFaraday says, I'm one of those people that compares my losses to others. I'd want to know HOW someone was losing X amount of weight every week while the rest of us weren't.

Just thought do they go to support someone else to do sw or do they go on their own.

I would hope that the leader might see something was a miss after a while of them losing loads week upon week! Mine clocks people who arent following it by how bad they do afterall ;-)

As for the sotw thing, id be more miffed to think everyweek they would be getting some food my hard money has paid for and they wouldnt even flipping well be eating it!!!! ;-)

I would be very, very, concerned about genuine SW members becoming demoralised, and perhaps giving up because of this, but also I can't help wondering what this VLCD person's own motivation is - has she got such low self esteem that she needs to 'cheat' her way to the top in order to be seen to be 'winning' every time?

thicko here whats a VLCD?
I joined slimming world this week but I informed the consultant that I have had a gastric bypass over 2 years ago so I am not intitled to slimmer of the week etc

Thats very honest of you x

It annoys the crap out of me when people in my class lose loads then say but I had 3 takeaways this week. That makes people think why do I bother being perfect if they can cheat and lose loads. If I knew someone was cheating their way to SOTW/SOTM I'd be real pissed. I find them really motivating, when I hear someone in group with a big loss my ears prick up and I think I will try that and see how it helps me, if they said I only eat veg they might have the will power for that but others might try and fail and binge cos of it, I can't see any point it fooling yourself let alone others cos it may be really detrimental to others.

If they need the official weigh either pay weigh leave or go to your GP they'll happily weigh you regularly for free! Mine does once a month cos I go SW but before he did it weekly for me.

PS if I was on a VLCD last thing I'd want to do is listen to a bunch of people munching on tonnes of pasta and yummy stuff I'd walk out salivating straight into a take away place!

That is such a fair point. What exactly would they get out of it? And in the IT part, do they just bare faced lie?

Um...honest answer...I don't think it would really bother me.
I go for my own benefit and yes, while it's great to see others losing weight, I'm not sure I really mind how they do it. We all know that it's just as hard whichever way you choose.
Im sure the person in question goes for the support and not just so she can 'win' all the awards and beat the SW dieters.

On a side note, a youngish lad in my group has lost 4 stone 3 lbs in 15 weeks and wins SOW every week, and to be honest I didn't even question how he may be doing it...I just think it's amazing that he's doing it at all!!!

I really don't understand why you would do it to be honest.

I've had SOTW 7 times & SOTM twice in 10 weeks-I do hope nobody suspects me of cheating!

I would tell the consultant and be extremely annoyed,we all work hard to achieve goals and if she doesn't want to follow plan she doesn't deserve the merit. Why can't she just either go to Boots or her local nurse?

Does the person doing the VLCD not get weighed by a counsellor or chemist? (Cambridge, LL or LT)

Or are they using Exante?

I think if they need the weigh in they are probably on the wrong VLCD.

That is very honest, I'm sure the other members will appreciate that :)
