I have always followed sw or ww and once tried cc with a pocket book of values but it was a nightmare and went back on a plan but recently discovered mfp and I'm loving it! I started off putting in my sw meals but last couple of days have enjoyed making my own choices and eating healthily and I can't believe how free I feel if that makes sense! I have spent so many years yoyo dieting and doing palms I don't think I actually know what is healthy other than what's low in points or on a free list! For example nuts can be healthy but I am scares to eat them because it feels wrong!

Definately going to keep using mfp and learn how to eat healthily, any good tips or good food choices please let me know! Think I can really get over this part of my long journey and crack on! I love hoe mfp estimates what you will weigh in 5 weeks time, it is a realistic goal and keeps you on track!

These days CC is pretty easy as most stuff has the info on the packaging. You'll soon pick up the calories in fruits, veg, meats.

Eat as much natural, unprocessed foods as you can. If you want goodies such as flapjacks/cakes make your own and freeze they are less addictive without the additives.

Choose bread with a high fibre content, usually the wholemeal ones with seeds.

Don't use too many diet products. I prefer plain yogurt with my own fruit or some lemon curd/honey mixed in.

Keep an eye on your carbs and don't make your meals carb heavy as I found I could eat a controlled carb (approx. 20-30g/main meal) and lose but when I switched to high carb/low fat as recommended by the health police the weight piled back on in a month or so.

Don't forget to snack between meals I find I lose more when I do. Usually I divide my lunch up into three so I can have a mid-morning and mid-afternoon fruit or half a sandwich.

If you have cals left and are not hungry forget them (or save for the weekend), even if MFP tells you to eat them. I usually take my calorie allowance over the week rather than daily.

Have fun.

Wow thanks for that, all stuff I have not thought of so really helpful! When I get back on thepc.with give you some reps for that! X

Good luck - I love CC - I feel liberated from diets!!

Hi Jayde,

I have, like you found ccing to be really liberating. I love it because I am the one in control, and to me that is really important.
I also see ccing as a lifestyle choice, it really doesn't feel like a "diet", because I am not denying myself anything. I have been doing this since June and have learned so much about how my body works and the food I eat.
One of the most important things I have learned is not to beat yourself up, or feel guilty when I slip up!! If it does happen (we are only human) you need to draw a line under it, and pick yourself up, and dust yourself off. Guilt can be your own worst enemy, so why do it?! :)
Like tranquility said, lots of healthy fruit and veg. I have learned that if I don't get my 5 a day I feel sluggish and crap!!! I treated myself to a pizza the other weekend and felt so ill after, because I am making healthier choices my body really punished me for over indulging. I still treat myself though, trust me, I'm no saint!! ;)

Are you doing any exercise yet? I know some people like to wait a few weeks before starting any, others don't do any at all.
Maybe you could write a diary in the calorie counting diary section? Thats where you will find me, and many, many others who are all aiming for the same thing. I really don't know what I would have done wthout my minimins buddies, they are so supportive, and we have such a laugh. Pop over there and have a look. :)
Keep up the good work, and good luck with everything. I look forward to reading more about your journey. Add me on MFP, my name is the same on there as it is on here. :)

P.S Chug, chug, chug the water. It really is a dieters best friend!!! xx

Thanks squeezy! I'm chugging water :) not started much exercise yet although I am thinking about it lol! I was going to aquafit a few times a week but had to stop because my work hours changed. But will think of something.

Been ccing since saturday and had a sneaky peak on scales as I usually only wi once a week and lost 5lbs so well chuffed! I can't believe how simple the weight loss strategy is even though doctors always say eat less that you use - it works! Has made me think I have been over complicating things. I still have a long way to go but feeling much more back in charge and on plan and I'm loving choosing what I want to eat rather than what's on a list.

I have been quite under my cals each day but mfp has given me 1700 which I don't need when I'm.picking good foods, averaging 1200 which I'm gonna stick with unless I stop losing. If I'm hungry I will eat more but not just to use them cals up.
