Hi everyone! I'm not sure whether there's a designated thread for people to introduce themselves but I couldn't see one so here I am :)

I am going to officially start Dukan tomorrow but have been doing a trial run yesterday and today. Yesterday I had chicken pieces for breakfast and king prawns for lunch ( then wine and tapas that evening as it was only a trial day) Today I'm going to try a bit harder and tomorrow I will be very strict as it is my official start day.

I'm 5'6" and weigh 133 lbs. Since starting a new (desk based) job in september I have put on 10lbs and am desperate to lose it again for my friend's wedding on 20th August.

My main obstacle is that I don't eat red meat but I love fish and eat chicken too so I think I'll be ok. Does anyone else omit red meat?

I have a couple of initial questions so if anyone could help me it would be much appreciated...

1. Where can I get oatbran? Tesco home delivery don't offer it but do tesco stores stock it?

2. Does it have to be plain chicken or can I eat BBQ / spicy / tikka pieces from tesco?

3. Do you think I need to buy the book or will I be able to rely on this forum and online research?

Thanks in advance for your help. Looking forward to getting to know you all!

Welcome :)
The book is a must, it's our bible. How much do you need to lose, is it 10 or more- sorry can't see your weight/bmi stats from my phone. It's just that Dukan doesn't recommend the plan for those already within healthy bmi so you need to make sure this is the right plan.

In answer to your questions
1 Oatbran is a must, can be purchased from Tesco in cereal isle.

2 Precooked chicken tends to have added starch, sugar and salt even when plain so much better to buy fresh and spice it up yourself and cook- cheaper too :)

3 Buy the book and read before starting the plan. We are all here to help but a solid understanding of the plan is a must.

No problems omitting red meat :)

Good luck x

Hi :)

Definitely buy the book. It isn't really meant to be a quick fix for a few lbs, you need to have a think and decide if you are really wanting to follow all 4 stages of the plan to keep the weight off and ensure it doesn't come back.

You sound like you are at a very healthy weight for your height, so this may not really be the plan you need, but get/borrow the book and see what you think :)

I'd also suggest you go to www.dukandiet.co.uk to check your target/true weight. It is free to do and shows how much is realistic to lose and how long the plan will last in total.

Good luck with whatever you decide! :D

Thanks guys. I know that, realistically, I probably won't be able to maintain the diet in its true state but I hope that a couple of months on it will help me cut back on carbs and think about what I'm eating. If I've put on 10lbs in 7 months then I'll prob start putting on a stone per year unless I follow a plan.

I'll order the book on amazon now and do my research thoroughly.

My mum is making a chicken dinner tonight of which I'm planning to just eat the chicken. Any other suggestions of what would be nice with it? I presume no gravy... :(

I don't mean to sound harsh, but you have so little to lose and you've said that you're unlikely to follow the diet through all the stages so I'm not sure if Dukan is really the diet for you.
It is not a quick fix diet, it is a diet to change your eating habits for life.
I'm no expert but I think if you just do Attack and then Cruise to lose the weight in a couple of weeks, then as soon as you go back to your usual way of eating, without going through Conso and Stabilisation, then it is likely to go back on.
What is your current BMI as you've not completed your stats?
Whatever you decide to do, good luck!
