giving up ?????

I am on day 13 now and think I am going to give up low carb. I have been ketotic since day 2 (+3 ketonuria on dip sticks). I lost 8 pounds in the first 5 days then have fluctuated between gaining and losing the same pound (so fluctuating between having lost 8 or 7 pounds overall). This means I have lost NO weight in the last 8 days :(. I feel so disappointed I have been strict , gave up MiM 5 days ago in case they were slowing me, I haven’t broken it once e.g. when out for a meal with friends I asked for a chicken breast and lettuce . I have been under 20g of carbs everyday and I have counted my calories for the last few days which have been around 1200.
I feel really cheated  Did anyone else have this experience in induction?

Dont give up! Im on day 12 and hadn't seen a loss since the first week, this morning I woke up and had lost 5lb! Keep going with it and make sure you are drinking water and getting your fats in. 2 days ago I started with coconut oil so maybe that helped and you could try that. It is still early days though so keep going and it will happen.
Try posting your food on here everyone is so helful and someone will help see whats happening.

1200 calories may be too low! Your body needs to know that it will get all the protein and fat it needs before it "lets go". Try uping your fat and cals slightly - hopefully you will get a visit from the whooshie fairy! :)

Hi I agree with Katie. You need to restrict only carbs not calories. Eat more! I know this may sound weird but it works I always have my better losses when I have ignored the calorie counter on MFP and just stuck to carb counting. And the fat, don't forget the fat it really does help x

I'm not at the stage of giving up but I too after having a good loss last week seemed to have gained a lb so far this week (on day 5 of week 2), just hoping that I get a sudden surge. Keep at it, we'll get there in the end

Thank you for all your replies you are all very sweet. I had a low carb breakfast and went for a walk to think about things.
People want to lose weight for various reasons and mine is that I want to stop feeling ashamed of myself. I don’t think I can cope with further failure as I am losing hope. I have decided to calorie count instead but thank you again for your support and answering questions in the last two weeks.
Good luck to everyone on Atkins and I am glad you are successful.

Newfate, am very similar in why I want to loose, lack of clothes, looking the fatty in every photo, fatty at every party in 'granny' clothes, my partner much leaner than me. Would love it if youd buddy up on your new plan, dont think any rules about cross diet messaging!!?? I think the hope comes with small steps, and if I can help with that comparing my journey Id love to...am notoriously slowest looser since Ive got older! Good luck loosing however you choose to get there...bet you will!!

I agree with the others, you may not be eating enough - all the old diet "rules" go out the window on Atkins and boy am I happy about that! :D

But whatever you decide, do keep posting here :)

Atkins turns conventional dieting 'wisdom' on its head. Yet the low-carb principles that underlie it are seen in countless other very successful diets - South Beach diet, Kee Diet, Dukan Diet and pretty much every VLCD going. The difference with the VLCD is that it controls calories as well as carbs, for optimum weight loss.

When we first start Atkins our heads are still full of what we could and could not eat on other plans. Put all that aside, suspend disbelief and doubt for a few weeks (months would be better) and follow Atkins to the letter. Remember that every person on this plan or any plan is an individual. Some on Atkins can munch cheese freely, others (myself included) have to seriously restrict it. I am vegetarian so again I do a slightly different version of Atkins to others, but I still follow the underlying rules.

This is not a fast weight loss plan. Yes, we lose weight very fast at first but the body then adjusts to the new food intake, not least the new (to the body) concept of using fat and protein as basic fuel instead of rice, pasta, bread, potatoes.... oh, and chocolate!

Please stick with it long enough to enjoy the benefits of Atkins and remember - on this diet you can eat. Until you are full. I think it is probably the only way of eating in the world that allows us to do this and still lose weight. And this means that we are learning to maintain with every meal!

Hi
that sounds good, not sure if I can private message yet but I will keep positing until I can :)

Good luck if you do change Newfate. Feel free to come back if you want to or post. I think you have over 50 posts so I think most privledges should be working now so you could message people x

Hi,

I have had pretty much the same experience with my weightloss stopping in the second week! I blame myself slightly, because I went for a night out (now over a week ago though!) where I ate / drank what I wanted so that made me put on of the 2lb I'd lost :( Even so, I am quite disappointed that I've only lost a grand total of 2.5lb in almost 3 weeks. Think I may invest in some coconut oil today and cross my fingers.....

Bless you, we've all done it.

The important thing with Atkins is to get properly into ketosis. If we cheat during Induction we prevent that from happening. It may only take a few days or more to start secreting ketones in the urine but the slightest carby slip can knock us back out again. Ketosis makes us burn body fat for fuel instead of the overload of carbs we used to stoke-up on. The ketones in the urine, that we measure on a (very often unreliable) ketostick, are the by-product of that fat burning process.

Just go back to the beginning, eat lean and green. Try to avoid sugar free products, Atkins shakes and bars, etc. and you will probably get back into ketosis much faster. Hold your nerve for a couple of weeks so you can really see the benefits. Good luck!
