Ketosis or no ketosis

Haing been on Exante for just over three weeks I have a query regarding ketosis.

I use Ketostix to measure my levels of ketosis and have been in quite deep levels before coming out after AAM. However, I feel no different whether I am in or out.

It makes no difference to me at all and I feel exactly the same.

This isn't a problem as I don't tend to get ravenous or anything but I am just thinking maybe the whole ketosis worry, in or out, is of little consequence to me.

Does anyone else have this?

Im with you on this one. I have to admit to dipping in and out quite regularly and to be honest Im neither up nor down with it. I dont get headaches, dont have the energy dips and while I do feel hungry, it tends to be for short bursts and is more than manageable

And I wouldnt waste my money on ketostix :)

Thanks Starlight, I was beginning to wonder if it was just me.

Like you, I seem to roll on and feel the same, no headaches or anything.

I certainly won't be buying anymore Ketostix. They were useful though to see where I was.

Obviously knowing that the ketosis effect creates little or no physical effect on me in terms of symptoms does mean I can be a little less concerned on things like fruit teas, or a diet drink. (looking on the positives!)

I think I am the same though maybe a lot of the harsher symptoms are carb withdrawal and if you have just dipped out on a relatively healthy meal ( even with the odd glass of vino) it's easier to jump back in . biologically we all store glycogen differently and in different amounts . Also mr mc I think the vegetarian carb combo has a different biochemical reaction to meat protein and carbs .... It's complicated !

Agree starlight re ketostix ..., ! Still they are fun (!) for me ... Sometimes

I'm glad this has been asked, as I was going to myself. I've haven't experienced any side effects or hunger since day 1.. I couldn't tell you if I'm in ketosis or what or even when I went into ketosis ( I must be though surely)

I've had such weird eating habits in the past including going without food all day and only eating at night, I could quite comfortably manage that, so I'm wondering if that's why the hunger hasn't got to me.. I'm sure I'm doing everything right :)

The very first time I went into ketosis, I had a very bad headache.
But I haven't really experience the same since.

I get bad breath, headaches, light-headedness, and depleted hunger. I don't mind because it's all for a good cause! It's like a mini-transition.

Ketosis doesn't make you lose weight but the presence of ketones in the urine does indicate that you are burning fat for fuel. Ketostix are so unreliable for the very mild ketogenic effect of diets that it's better to judge from your body, your lack of appetite, and your increased energy, etc. Ketosis is wonderful!

However, what I was saying is that whether ketosis or not, I don't find it surprises my appetite any more than not being in ketosis. Equally my energy levels remain just as high.

Also, with our without ketosis the body converts stored energy whenever it is depleted or needs to find more. However, after ketosis, the body is more reluctant to use fat cells as it is unsure of expected energy intake in the future.

It is true for some / many though that it does help suppress appetite and increase energy, however it also seems that for others (not just me thanks to this thread) that it has little or even no effect at all.
