It's time I said hi

I've been lurking for almost a week, thought it's high time I said hi. The info on here is great and you seem a friendly bunch. I've been on MiniMins for quite some time, trying various different diets (SW, WW) and then Alli and Xenical in 2010. Gained and lost the same old pounds with a gradually upward trend in my weight

This time I decided I have to try harder (dad got diagnosed with cancer last summer and there's diabetes in the family, that bothers me), so I went and 'unloaded' on the doctor and owned up to being a mildly depressed, tearful and anxious emotional eater. I felt a wreck and just about held it together! She was great! I'm back on Xenical with strict instructions to return when my packet ends with a 5kg (12.5lbs right?) loss
But perhaps more importantly, she's referring me to a local group so I can try to get to grips with the emotional side. I also had bloods taken to check thyroid, diabetes, cholesterol and liver (or was it kidney...or both) functions. Still waiting on those results.

Thanks to you guys I've been reading away, finding out how much fat to eat, and on my 6th day I have lost 4lbs (not sure how much is fat though as I'm mid period, but that number on the scales makes me feel a little better!)

I have a swimsuit  holiday to look forward to in a fortnight so I am spurred on at the moment.

Sometimes I'm hitting my 45g of fat per day over 3 meals (snacking only on fruit and raw carrots), sometimes I'm eating very low fat and getting nowhere near that. On the whole I feel a lot more in control when there's that fear of oily accidents!

I will be here for some time I expect, looking forward to getting to know you all better x

I have also had a problem with emotional eating - after I lost my friend to lukemia a few years ago it all started again.

I have been going to a counsellor on and off when I need it for a few years...I still struggle with my weight I can go either way from my lowest at 7 stone 8 lbs to my highest at 11 stone.

Im looking now for a healthy happy medium at 9 Stone.

My husband has been on Alli for two weeks and has yet to weigh so I will let you know how he is getting on. I wish you the best of luck!

thanks, I'd love to hear how your hub gets on. I think the group my doc is referring me to lasts for a year. I'm scared to go, but scared not to!

Hi there, sorry to hear about your dad. My hubby was diagnosed in Dec 10 with Intestinal/Bowel cancer, had major op and 6 months of chemo. Waiting to hear the results of that.
You made a good choice taking xenical and welcome.
I think you doc is expecting alot with 12.5lbs in your first month i was told 3kgs (6-7lb)
Keep drinking plenty of fluids and i'm sure you'll do fab.
I'm doing ww too.

Hoping your dad's result are positive Mandy. Dad had prostate cancer and radiotherapy, that's under control now with hormone tablets, but he also has a dodgy area where his oesophagus meets his stomach too and has more consultant appointments soon to either cut the area out or explore less invasive treatments.

I did wonder if I'd remembered what the doc said correctly about the expected weight loss. I'm sure if I can show her at least 2lb per week she'll see I am trying hard and will hopefully let me continue on Xenical for a bit longer.

How are you finding getting your fat allowance for Xenical in for every meal along with meeting your allowance for WW Propoints? I'm so glad WW online let's you see the nutrient details (e.g. fat content) for any items you point, makes it a bit easier to combine WW with Xenical!

Welcome to Xenical, I think what the Dr expected of you could be a little much (I lost 10lbs in my first week and 16lbs in my first month) a healhty weight loos as recommended by Dr's is 1.5 -2lbs a week, so I imagine if you went with a loss of 2-3kg's they'd be happy with that.

You don't have to hit the fat targets, however it's a good idea to aim for them, Xenical needs fat to work with, plus we need fats (the good ones) in our diet, stick to the rules and just watch the fat, drink plenty and make sure you're having at least 1200 calories a day.

If it helps my Dr said I had to lose 5% of my body weight ie 7kg in the first 3 months.

I think I must have not remembered what the doc said correctly then. Although with 5lbs gone in the first week I am well on my way :woohoo:

It's the same percentage for everywhere, it's the conditions you have to meet to stay on Xenical, 5% within 3 months and 10% within 6 months :)

Thanks Bunny I didn't know about the 10%, guess it's irrelevant until you've met the first 3 month's condition.
