Greece Anyone?

Trying... Really Trying.
Hey,
Me and t'other half are thinking about going to one of the greek islands. She likes sitting around on beaches, I would like to see a little history and we both enjoy our food. Looking for a "couples" style holiday rather than a clubbing nightlife. Have heard Rhodes is quote nice, anyone been to any of the islands and have anything to suggest? x

Hi, been to corfu, wasn't one of the best holidays i'v been on. havn't returned to greece since but are hoping to visit a greek island next year, have herd only good things about Rhodes and Halkidiki (not an island). Sorry i'm not really much help but I would like to hear anyones experiences.

have you thought about visiting Cyprus, gorgeous island beautifull beaches, and lots of history, i found the sory of famagusta fascinating, but also very sad.

When are you hoping to visit greece?

Thinking of heading out September time when the kiddies have gone back to school so a) little cheaper b) they arent in MY pool ;P.
I have been researching Rhodes and Rhodes Town looks great for a walk around and a bit of history buffing, plus the beaches look beautiful for the OH.
I had thought about Cyprus, I just think the Mrs was kind of set on Greece, I darent give her more ideas as on our little pop in visit to First Choice she drove the poor woman mad by her search criteria of "Somewhere nice in Europe" about 45 minutes later I suggested we go home and do some research as I could see the poor saleswoman's soul slowly leaving her body. Bless.

Yep I've been to Greece & just love it.

Zante - lovely island, but maybe not what you are looking for; maybe al little to 'british'.
Stoupa - on the mainland, quiet but only 'one road in & one road out', I think we took a trip to Olympia from here (somewhere we visited anyway), that was brill.
Kefalonia - beautiful island, maybe what you are looking for.
Thassos - again beautiful, small island, plenty of beaches & sight seeing, my favourite greek island.

I'm sure I've been to more & if I remember I'll let you know.

Lindos is spot on, we have been 5 times on the trot. The children love it, busy during the day in the town and perfect on a night time.

It's really hot during the day 42c last month for a few days. But, superb people and great scenery.

Thanks Y'all. We have just booked a holiday just south of Faliraki, I know it sounds a little clubby and chavvy but we are assured its a little way away from the "action" so we can be nice and chilled if we want to. It seems to be easy travel to both Rhodes town and Lindos, All Inclusive (uh oh slimming world!), 4 star hotel for just under £500 each flights, transfers, luggage etc inc! Heading out a month today! So excited!

We are planning to pop down to Lindos as I am a history geek and have heard that the ruins there are really good for a visit! Thanks for your input dandy!

The akropolis at lindos is worth the travel and even more so to see it lit up at night.

My Mother in Law lives in Gennadi a little further south. Pefkos is lovely for a relaxing holiday, nightlife if you want it but not too loud!

Rhodes town is ok, very commercialised. But if you're looking for history, the harbour just outside rhodes old town is a must!

Anyone been to Kos who can give me hints and tips on things to do? I'm stopping all inc at Psaldi just outside Kos town

Hi we went to kos last may and stayed in tigaki which isn't too far along the north coast from kos town. We went self catering which gave us a bit more freedom to explore the local restaurants I think. We did an excursion up to zia one evening which we loved. It is the highest point on the island and is famous for the sunset, unfortunately the night we went it was cloudy lol but still gorgeous. Did a bit of market shopping, had a drink at a rooftop taverna and then chose a different taverna with a veranda overlooking the island for dinner. It was gorgeous.
Also we hired a quad bike and went round the north coast, was really good fun and good way to get your bearings.
Kos town is beautiful, the harbour is very modernised and the cafes alongside it are pricy but if you go off the beaten track a bit you find some really nice little places.
Also another great day was a boat trip we did, went island hopping round the 3 islands nearest to kos. Was so much fun (very choppy as it was so windy but we were just unlucky!) and we got to go snorkeling, explore the other islands as well as plenty of sunbathing in between on the boat.
Loved that holiday want to go again! Actually was a year ago tomorrow we went... Sigh...
