sw syn free sw crisps & Salsa dip ???

I heard about home-made sw crisps and a salsa dip ... Can't find the recipe for either can anyone help ????

I am a savoury junkie so this would be prefect!

I used to make my own crisps by slicing them thin and fry lighting a plate, and putting some seasonings on them - paprika, salt and vinegar, chicken powder...and then bunging them in the over for about 4 - 5 mins. Niiiice!

If you do a search in the recipe forum you will find lots of salsa recipes but unfortunately the crisps you are talking about are not syn free. You have to syn them as if you were on a red day.

I don't know what the SW recipe is, but this is my recipe, slice the potato finely, place on a big plate covered in frylite.... make sure they're not overlapping or they will stick together! coat them in any type of flavouring (I used chicken oxo, put some water with it to make it a thin paste then coat over the potatoes) If you want them to look really fancy I sprinkle some parsley on them - and gives extra taste. Pop them in the microwave for 5-10 mins depending on how big the plate is. They come out crispy and gorgeous!

Oh and the salsa, get some copped tomatoes and add in some fried finely chopped chilli peppers and onions. Don't take the seeds out the chiili pepper if you want it extra spicy.

Thank you I will try this - sounds delicious!

Why do you have to syn them?

Oh dear, I had a situation once making crisps in the microwave. I bought this plastic microwavable crisp maker off ebay from Hong Kong - obviously couldn't read the instructions so I used a bit of guess power. Well, lets just say, the whole thing melted, and there was smoke and everything, and me and my parents (my dad has emphysemia!) had to stand in the garden for 15 mins while we were coughing up our lungs. Oh dear. Hideous. Needless to say, I haven't made SW crisps since.

SW say that you have to syn them because it is too easy to overconsume them and that could affect your losses. Think of it this way, would you ever sit down and eat two or three baked potatoes as a snack? Probably not. You would have one potato as part of a meal with superfree foods to help limit how much you eat. But you could very easily sit and chomp your way through a couple of potatoes worth of crisps as a snack. So SW say you should syn them to protect your losses.

I know this is an old thread, and even though there is an explanation as to why you have to syn the 'crisps' (you wouldnt sit and eat 2 or 3 potatoes), I still dont get why you have to? They say you can eat unlimited homemade SW chips, which are obviously made from potato, and I usually make mine from 2 or 3 potatoes. So how come I dont have to syn my chips?

Because the chips still retain some of the moisture so are still filling to a certain extent. When made into crisps all the moisture is removed, hence the bulk, so they are less filling. If you ate 3 potatoes made into SW chips and 3 potatoes made into crisps you would be stuffed after the chips but the crisps wouldn't fill you up.

I'm guessing it's like dried fruit. You have to syn dried fruit but not fresh fruit because the moisture has been taken out of them
