Newbie - former WW member.. Thinking of joining SW

Hello everyone
I lost 3 stone with WW over 3 years. After a hectic few months I have not stuck to plan and have put on about a stone. I have been feeling very down lately and realised that my weight is one of the main reasons for this. I need a new start and am thinking of joining SW as it is something completely different. A friend of mine lost 6 stone over about 8 months with SW and that has given me another reason to join - although I know we are all different!

I am hoping to go to a local class on Tuesday. I am very nervous but I need a boost to make me feel better. If anyone has any tips for a complete newbie to SW I would be grateful.

Thank you for your time x

Hi and welcome to SW.

My mum swapped from WW to SW and found her biggest problem was she didnt eat enough. After counting points she couldn't get her head round the "eat as much superfree and free food as you like". Her councillor was constantly telling her to eat more.

Will you be following extra easy or red/green days? Just make sure you eat lots of superfree foods.

Good luck and enjoy

Have a look on the extra easy for new people thread in the stickies. Good luck with SW. I love the plan and I think WW would drive me mad!

Took her a while to get her head in the right place but she had good losses most weeks. She has now lost between 3&4 st and reached target about a year after she joined.

I tried WW a few years ago but I was ALWAYS hungry. SW suits me much better. Hope it works for you too

The best advice i can give is to put ww out of your mind completely as it is completely different. This is not always advice i follow tho as i do still have 'issues' about portion sizes! The only thing i can think to compare it to ww wise is the old core/no count plan if you were around when that was out!

Hi and welcome. I too tried WW but it didn't work for me even though I followed it to the letter. I actually put on weight hehe. But not everyone is the same right :)
But I love being on SW, it is so easy and barely any counting. My daughter is on SW too with me and if she has a green day and I have a red we can still have the same meals.
I found the people at SW classes a lot nicer too.

Be nice to hear how your class goes and about Extra easy. As an old timer hehe, of SW I still stick to the old ways so I don't know about extra easy. But they have so many things for it. Like ideas and recipes and menus.

Like Funky Munky says, put WW out of your mind. Diets can be hard when you compare it to another one.

I am sure you will do great :D

Hi I have also lost 3 stone before with ww but heard so many good things about sw I had to try it out! Meetings are different buy I like them!! Best advice I could give is set sone time aside the day you get your books to have a good old read! I didn't do too many 'recipes' my first week as just wanted to get my head around what I could/ couldn't have! Eat your healthy extras and I was recommend 12 syns a day to start. I have eaten well, eaten out and do tend to have something chocolately most days. I've lost 10lbs in 3 weeks and can honestly say I've never been hungry once- in fact I think my appetite has reduced a bit. I've also already gone down a dress size and have noticed in pictures that my face doesn't look as bloated (I think this is due to me not eating any White bread!!)

Can't wait to hear how you get on- you'll be fab in sure! Any questions ask away!! Xxx

The first thing you have to do is FORGET Everything WW has ever told you about food and what you can and cannot eat. Always have your 1/3 superfree fruit or veg with meals and if you snack, try to have superfree with that as well. The only measuring you will do is for your healthy extra a's and b's.

With SW - you can eat in or out...nothing is forbidden and you don't have to worry about going over points..

I'm not following SW (although I've heard it's great) but just wanted to say well done for getting back on the wagon :)

I am a WW gold member, and went back to class after christmas, to shift the surplus weight, but could not get my head around the new propoints plan, and was hardly eating anything, and consequently starving!
So after three weeks, and only losing 3lbs, which really should have been higher after Christmas, I joined SW on the spur of the moment.
I had thought about it but didn't think it would suit me, and feeding the family, how wrong I was!
Initially I found the amount of food I could eat unbelievable, and my losses weren't good, but I gradually got into it, and started to listen to when I was full, not just eating it, because I could.
I have now lost 1stone 3lbs in 25 weeks, and am 1 off my Club 10 award and interim target.
