VLCD & Diabetes

I've been on a VLCD for over a week and my fasting blood reading this morning was 3.9mmol, and I have been testing every couple of hours today and the one before my dinner was 3.6, has anyone been on a vlc diet and experienced these kind of results? I'm a type II diabetic, and I have not been taking my metformin since being on this diet as my blood readings seemed fine.

Those are mild hypo readings! You really should never go below 4.0.
Can I please suggest that you swop over to low carb? Diabetes is all about the carbs NOT the calories. Take care of the carbs and the calories will take care of themselves.
Also, with these low bg readings I would suggest that you go back to your doctor. Be careful and let us know how you are doing please. :)

Thanks for getting back to me :)

The reason I came on this diet is because I read in the paper some diabetics got rid of their diabetes on a VLC diet, I went to the doctor to inform him I was going on the diet expecting some guidance and him at least asking to see me every week or so, he told me to keep taking my Metformin and to see him in 9 weeks...

Luckily I stopped taking the Metformin else who knows what my blood reading would be!! I'm changing my doctor, hopefully to someone who cares about my health :)

Lol, that diet in the paper has a lot to answer for! If you look what was in the diet it was actually low carb . It makes sense that if you take a lot of carb out of a diet then you are, by default, also removing calories. The trouble is that low carbing has had some bad press so nobody wants to call their new diet low carb. My type 2 friends ( I am type 1) swear by low carb and some of them have actually gotten off all meds. I am on the lowest amount of insulin I have ever taken in my life and am very energetic and healthy. Sorry if I sound a bit evangelical but I know it works.
Do find a better doctor if you can. I had to hunt around for mine and I am glad I did. She is behind me all the way and is delighted at my progress! :)

I've lost about 9lbs or so this week on exante, I'm thinking about maybe drinking one shake for breakfast and one for lunch then maybe having a low carb dinner...thats my first thought anyway.

How many carbs do you think is the maximum for a diet to be low carb?

Thanks for your help :)
