SW Friendly Syn Free Curries

Mrs V

Loves Life!
Hi all.

Please forgive me if I have posted in the wrong place...just getting used to being back on here after having a baby, so goldfish brain!!

For those of you on Facebook, there is a guy that has set up his own curry spices thread. His name is nazs curry mix..he also has links to his website.
He is a sw member in south Wales who has put his curry meals up on you tube.
The packets sell for 2.95 each and come with instructions. They are quick and delicious and are syn free!!
I thought you may like to know, as this guy is going to become one of those gem finds like joes sausages.

Aren't they just a packet containing various different spices though? You know, like coriander, cumin, fennel, fenugreek etc or whatever is relevant to the type of curry youre making? Theres nothing 'special' about it cos these are all free anyway, it just means you dont have to buy a jar of each. It'snot the same as Joe's specifically making sausages without syns in, as spices dont have syns anyway.

Its OK if you dont make curries very often I suppose but if you do its way, way cheaper to just add a teaspoon or whatever of each when you make your curry. I make them a lot so buy lots of my spices in bag, but you've been able to get ethnic packs of pre-prepared curry mix for years and most of the supermarkets have started doing 'curry kits' where all the spices you need are included in separate packets. Or does this guy have something different? Ive googled him but if I've got the right guy Naz / King of Spice / restaurantcurrykits it's just a bag of mixed spices.

PS sorry the above post isnt meant to sound rude or anything, I know sometimes I can sound quite abrupt

Im sure his product is fine, Im just saying its not really comparable to Joe's as spices are always free and its not new either cos you can already get spice packs in ethnic shops and/or supermarkets. :)

I'm not very good with curries - in that i don't know what goes into each one so until SW i used to use the jar sauces, so these would certainly be better than those syns wise. I do get that, though if you already understand how to make curries from scratch they would be a bit pointless!

Not rude at all hun. I thought I would share as I'm a huge curry lover. That said I haven't tried them yet, my family have ad yes basically it's his own blend of spices (naturally won't share them) that you add to make things like tikka massala, jalfrezi etc as well as kebabs. I will give them a try and report back, but I know some of his recipes are 5min ones so dont have to spend hours preparing them.

Yes, he has his own website too called restaurantcurrykits.com and they are a blend of spices sold in bags. They are all the rave in south Wales at the moment. I have just been given by my local restaurant (whom I'm very close too!) their basic curry mixture. Apparently that's all it is a basic mix and then blending the spices or adding different veg to make the different varieties.

I can recommend the Slimming World 'Curry Heaven' cookbook for curry lovers - I've tried about a third of the recipes so far and they've all been delicious. The majority are syn free on ee.

I just watched some of his vids, you still have to prepare all your veg, onions, chillies and all that. You can already get mixes with onion flavouring, garlic powder, chilli powder etc etc etc in so that would eliminate need for these, so I assume he must have some bags that have these flavourings in? Thats just the same as having a jar of Bart's Jerk seasoning or Madras seasoning or even basic curry powder though.

Mystifies me why people think this removes prep time, spices/flavourings take less than 2 min to locate and add :D
Oh well, best of luck to him! :)

This is definately my favourite SW cookbook!:D

Absolutely love the Onion Bhajis, Lamb koftas, Lamb bhuna, Jalfrezi chicken and Turkey shami kebabs.

All spices are free on sw...though having them endorsed by sw is a different matter!

SW have stopped endorsing anything now, but as said above, spices are free!

I realise spices are free and My understanding was SW dont endorse things now. Theres a massive difference between SW friendly and endorsed and I wouldnt like to see either this guy advertising wrongly or people going to him believeing they are SW endorsed.

I thinks its important its clarified.
