Ok can someone pls tell me how to cook SW chips so they look like they do in magazine as mine come out soggy and black where bits of fry light are! Grrr.

Everyone has their own unique way of doing them, but my preferred quick way is this:

Turn oven up really high.
Peel potatoes and stab them all the way through.
Put them in the microwave and cook until soft.
Cut them up into chip shapes.
Spray a tray with frylight, put chips on tray, add more frylight and salt and stick them in hot oven. Keep shaking the tray and remember to turn chips over.

I put mine on baking paper and they come out lovely and crispy x

I put fan oven on about 220 to heat up.
Peal and chip potato.
Par boil for 4-5 mins (depending on waxy/floury potato).
Drain and leave to dry off for 5 mins.
Spread out on a low sided baking tray (or a pizza tray with the holes in the bottom).
Spray with frylight.
Cook in a v hot oven for around 15-20 mins.
They come out really nice.
Find they dont crisp up if you have a high sided tray or they go in too damp from boiling. Oven must also be very hot.
Good luck

Thanx for ur info. I tried again but they came out exactly the same as before. Soggy and brown :( how hard can it be??!!!??? It's a chip for heavens sake! I must b doing something wrong

I'm with Slickers on this one - buy an actifry......... mine are perfect now and it makes the most heavenly rosemary and garlic roasties and roasted veggies too.

Dear husband cooked a chilli (for him - I don't do hot food!) in it the other night and that came out lovely as well..... he's well impressed and will even eat the SW chips now!

I don't even use oil - I just use some sprays of butter Fry Light, a sprinkle of Aromat or BBQ seasoning and they come out gorgeous :heartpump::heartpump:

I had no end of problems until my friend in work who also does SW said to simply chop the potatoes, frylight them, and stick them in the oven - I've done this ever since and they've been perfect every time. No messing about with boiling or wasting money on Airfryers or Actifrys - I've seen the results that come out of these machines anyway and tbh the oven way is much better!

Try wedges first as abit bigger and go less soggy. I chop into thick wedges with skins on. Pop in water in the microwave for ten mins, drain, place on baking tray spread out (oh I spray baking tray first and sprinkle with paprika) put potatoes on tray and move around so they coat alittle in the paprika and bake for around 20 mins on 220. They are fab sprinkled with a HEXA of cheese too :D

hello,
I have just enjoyed some lovely slimming world chips so thought id explain how i do them :)
before you start, put your oven on gas mark 6/7 and place a baking tray in there to heat up
1.peel your potatoes and cut them into the shapes you want
2. place them in a pan and cover with boiling water from a boiled kettle
3. boil them on a high heat for 8 minutes, after the eight minutes test how soft they are from sticking a knife or fork in them, if they are not soft enough boil for them for the next few mins
4. when they are soft enough drain half of them in a colander and shake quite hard until they go soft and fluffy.
5.when you have fluffed them up get the heated tray out of the oven and spray with fry light quite a lot! pour the fluffed up potatoes on the tray and spread them out.
6. now get the other half of the potatoes and shake them hard in the colander again and then transfer to the same baking tray.
7.put them on the top tray in the oven for about 20 mins, after the 20 mins go and take them out and flip them all over and then spray again with fry light.
8. wait another 10/20 mins and then they will be ready.

if this does not work then i dont know what will haha!
hope this helps x

Don't know if this will help but my husband has said that my chips and roast potatoes have been fantastic recently - praise indeed. I par boil my potatoes, drain them off and put back into the saucepan to dry completely, pour one teaspoon of Flora Cuisine over them and turn to coat, place on a silicone sheet which has been placed on a baking sheet and place them in a hot oven until golden brown.

I agree with putting them straight in the oven... I usually leave the skins on and make them like wedges too. Yummy!

I also bought an actifry. Yes they are expencive but I can honestly say they make gorgeous chips/wedges/roasties etc.

All in less then 30mins - no mess, no fuss & all suitable to be bunged into the dishwasher after for someone else to wash, lol

I made a really nice batch of SW chips last night but I will say that I too have fallen victim to some disasters whilst attempting to make these! The changes I made last night to how I usually cook them is that I cut them into more 'fries' then chips and only par boiled them for about 7-8mins. I also put my tray with frylight on into the oven to heat up first. I hate par boiling them first though as this is where I think I usually go wrong. I definitely think I will try putting them straight in the oven next time x
