Another Newb :)

I am new to Atkins, but not to ketosis as I have spent the last 10 months (unintentionally) maintaining by re-re-re-restarting a VLCD diet. Last week I decided that I couldn't do another Day 1 - I'd get to about 4pm, be starving, and decide that I wasn't that overweight anyway and had to eat , so it almost inevitably led to a binge. I suppose it felt like trying to crack a walnut with a sledgehammer, so the logical move was to Atkins. My book hasn't arrived yet but this forum has provided me with a wealth of information and I'm now on Day 3 of Induction, one happy bunny :D. I knew I had been missing food, cooking, in fact chewing ;), but I think my relationship with food was getting worse, not better. The VLCD did serve me well, at the time I started I needed a complete break from food and I lost 2 1/2 stone. But I knew I needed a life-long plan and Atkins seems to be the one that suits me.
Anyway, sorry for rambling introduction, your forum seems to be a friendly place (I recognize quite a few names from Exante and LL!), I'm in and out all the time looking for information, inspiration and RECIPES!!!

Welcome Lucy

You're right, everyone is very friendly here - and read the stickies - lots of advice and recipes.

I hope it all goes well - I'm on a vlcd at the mo. And yes it is for the second time. I lost 3 stone nad put back one one and a half. Once I go down, maybe 3 stone from where I am now I will be about a stone from goal - so maybe atkins would be the way to go after that. let me know whow you get on.

Thanks for the warm welcome!
You're right about the stickies Susie - I've found out loads already, answered most of my questions. And seeing the recipes has made me look forward to cooking and trying out new things again. I have been amazed at the range of stuff we can have, even in induction - I probably had a very out-dated idea of Atkins in my head before I investigated it properly.
Lass, I think that already being used to being in ketosis, Atkins is a good way to reintroduce food - less scary for me anyway! I've known for a while that carbs aren't my friend but they've always been my weakness too. Now I'm satisfied from my meals I'm not thinking about the evil stuff! It's taking some getting used to legally using butter, oil, mayo, etc., but I'm loving it :D. I'm using Fatsecret to track everything.

For someone who never used to cook, I have really enjoyed eating stuff I've cooked from scratch, and knowing there are no nasties lurking, like added sugar and salt and preservatives.

I always used to enjoy cooking, sort of lost interest once my kids started turning their noses up at everything I made , separated from ex-OH so didn't have to feed him any more, then went on VLCD so didn't have to bother for myself either.
Certainly got the bug again now tho - cooked pot of pork curry today, going to try the "lasagne" with courgette and aubergine slices in the recipes section tomorrow. Loads of nice meals going in the freezer for busy days :D

Hi again Confused!! How is Atkins suiting you? x

Its going well so far :) Lost 8lbs in about 8 days so v happy with that.

I've never felt so well! Not bloated, never hungry and I have a lot more energy.

I hope atkins suits you too :D

The board is really friendly and someone is always about to answer any questions x

I'm not getting hungry and I'm having bursts of energy, but I am feeling very bloated  Also constipated [sorry, TMI], have used Senacot which has helped some, but my stomach feels uncomfortably big, even more than usual! Hoping this is just first week/getting used to it. Any advice? 3.8lb so far though :D

Your guts can take a while to get used to the new food balance. Recommend physillium husks initially to get you regular fast - but then if you try and like mims (see whole sticky) then half a mim a day should be all you need:)

Thanks Kat1e, I guessed things would settle down after a few days ;) I have some psyllium husk capsules, started them this morning. I also have some flax seed meal winging it's way to me and have MiM recipes all ready to try!! Looking forward to experimenting with that.

I think I may have to give those a go too lucy, I am on day three and am starting to feel rather full! Spinach and rocket do not seem to be enough for the moment.

Sorry to hear you're suffering too Jaxy  It's strange to be losing weight yet feeling like one of those puffa fish ;) Feeling good otherwise tho? x

Getting in the swing...

Well day 6, feeling fine. I'm getting the hang of balancing everything out now. Have upped my leafy greens to try and combat the bloating (although Mother Nature presented another reason why I might be bloated this morning - 2 weeks early??!! Sorry to the guys, TMI). I've lost a little weight but my waist measurement is if anything 1cm bigger. Hmmm. My New Atkins book arrived yesterday so reading up a bit more. Oh, and had my first MiM last night - I can see they will be a regular thing, lots of scope for variations. Hope everyone's having a good day (sunny!!!!! :D).
