couch potato

Hey everyone just wondered if you guys had any ideas of how I can get started with excersizing. I'm only 22 but just sit at a desk all day and not done anything active since I left school. I'm 21st and get out of breath easy. Want to stop myself being lazy but don't know where to start and worried people will laugh at me. Xxx

Walk! Stick your earphones and and concentrate on nothing but your fave music! I remember being so self concious i could have cried but you have to overcome that....or maybe get a wii? or if you have an xbox a kinect? they are both fab and u can do them in the privicy of your own home....or a ladies only gym?..there are loads about and you would not believe the size of some ladies i have seen in there, all there for same reason...lose the weight. good luck! x

You could start by walking to the bus stop and walking one bus stop further every day, leaving earlier to incorporate the time needed.
Not sure what work you do but either walk up a floor before getting the lift or get out a floor before yours, do that everyday increasing the floors walked until you're walking rather than taking the lift! Then increase the pace up the stairs!
If you have a dog take him out for an hour or so walk every night, as you get used to it increase the pace.
If you're at home watching tv everytime an ad break comes on go upstairs. As you get better you can try for more trips before the programme restarts!
I'm sure I saw somewhere the tv exercise plan which was to do something everytime an ad break came on, like star jumps or running on the spot. You start when the break does and stop when the programme is on and you do it every ad break, by the end of a programme you might have had a mini workout of about 15/20 mins. Do this all night and it adds up to quite a bit lol.
I've swapped a chair at my computer for a gym ball and I sit and do ball exercises all night lol. Well for the most part i just bounce up and down lol with the odd proper one thrown in now and again lol
Good luck

Thanx for the advice guys will def give these things a go xxx

Wii Fit is fab and might help you get your confidence up a bit before you join a gym. Also, when I first started exercising I found swimming really helped me. It's easy on your joints, it's a great cardio workout and it really, really does tone up every part of your body simultaneously. It took me a while to pluck up the courage to wear a swimming costume and I felt sick the first time I walked out of the changing rooms but no one cared and I built up more confidence the more I went. Aquafit is really good too. Ladies nights are particularly good and a late night swim when the pool is quieter was always my fave.
