Heart rate monitors

I keep seeing them mentioned on here, and I am wondering if it would be worth getting one, and if so, where from? Do they tell you how many calories you have burned when exercising?

I'd rather not spend loads of money - but are the cheaper ones any good?

I am using Food Focus, and I think that their calories burned by various exercise bit is a bit rubbish - I do Pilates at an advanced level - it's seriously hard (and yes, your heart rate increases) and not only do Food Focus not have Pilates as an exercise option, the nearest they have is 'stretching' using a paltry amount of calories.

I'm just pondering whether buying a HRM would be just another of those gadget-y things that I think are a good idea at the time, but end up in a cupboard, unused

I would say yes - I love mines and never exercise without it :1)

I think some people mentioned lloyds for a cheap one

But amazon sell some as well x

Lidl have them for £12.99 this week too :)
I love mine and wear it all day, every day, as I do alot of walking, even whilst at work (we offer a dog walking service), so I like to have it on and ready to go anytime I start exercising. I now find it a strange feeling when I'm not wearing it, and when I have a 'normal' watch on, I have to squint at the time, too lol.
Using my cheap ass HRM and my free BB MFP app is changing my life - QUICKLY!

I bought mine for £20 from Tesco and it does the job just fine. It matches almost spot on what myfitnesspal estimates when I put in there about an exercise they have so I feel able to trust it for ones they don't have!
