Question about going off SS

Hi all,

So I was wondering what your opinions are. I will be travelling to Japan for a three week holiday in 7 weeks. I plan to be fully off the cambridge diet back then so I can enjoy the food over there (however planning to do this healthily and not go mad, lots of fish).

I still have 12 lbs to lose by then (well thats my rough target). I was wondering what you guys thought the best way to go about this is.

Should I take it slow and do another week of SS, then a week of SS+, the next week 810, the next week 1000, then 1200 and then 1500 in the last week and then the week before I go full normal food.

Or

Contuniue on SS untill I get much closer to my targer and then in the last week beforeI go do the 1000 plan.

See I would like to continue losing more weight but I would like to maintain properly and not gain all the weight back quickly. Im worried that if I just go straight to 1000 cals and then normal food that Ill pile food back on.

What do you guys think? And should I hop back onto Cambridge when Im back?

I don't have a clue, but wanted to say "how exciting!" I'd love to spend time in Japan. Hope you have an amazing time and you're at target by then!

I've come off CD (I had no choice, I need to pass a fitness test at work and I couldnt run fast on no carbs) . I was doing SS and was terrified I'd put on weight. I'm calorie counting (1400) and training really hard (2 sessions a day) and I've continued to lose weight.
I've got 9 weeks till my holidays and I'm still hoping to be at target by then (even though I'm not on CD)

Hi ElaineD did you've had great losses, well done :) Did you go from SS straight to calorie counting (1400 calories) did you see a change in the loss slowing down? or did you at first gain some weight? or did your losses continue as before?

Sorry I know, lots of questions, I just wanna do this right in a sustainable way.

I went straight from SS to calorie counting (not ideal but didnt have a choice really). If you look at my weight losses on week 11 and 12, you'll see that I didnt weigh in on week 11 (didnt want to depress myself with any glycogen gain) and I only lost 1lb on week 12. These were my first 2 weeks of calorie counting so I guess it kind of slowed down round about then for a couple of weeks. Its speeded up again though on weeks 13,14 & 15:)

Awesome :D that gives me some hope that Ill be able to maintain sucessfully. I think that as long as I stick to my allocated calories it doesnt matter too much how gradual the change is.

Ooh Elaine - that's brilliant to see - and well done for making the switch so effectively - you've got a lot of discipline there!

Illa - except most people don't have the kind of consultant they could do that with. In fact the mere suggestion made me chuckle and I have had 3 different consultants :)

I would say your first alternative of gradually reintroducing food is better but with that said I have a scheduled 10 days of eating and will go from SS 100% for 13 weeks into waking up next morning and having lush breakfast and then at the end of them into SS 100% but then again I have another year of Cambridge ahead and am not at the blessed end like you are :) Good luck!

I would say yes, gradually reintroduce the food by moving up the steps as you suggested. After a carb restricted diet the really important consideration is to very slowly add extra carbs. It's not all about calories although of course they are also relevant. If you reintroduce carbs - even 'healthy' starches etc, too quickly, your appetite may come back with frightening force. When it does it can be near-impossible to curb, which causes bingeing, which leads to weight gain which, in most of us, melds into sheer panic and fear! You are doing so well, you have got such a smart take on it all. Don't risk danger unnecessarily.

Work your way up the steps, and have a fantastic holiday with lots of good protein! And yummy veg. When you get back review the situation. If you have gained and you feel you want to SS again, go for it. It may be that 810 will prove the better choice. Should you decide to stick with regular food go Atkins or Low GI at first. x
