Attack Dukan and alcohol

Hi daisy,

In all honesty I have drank whilst on dukan and it did not affect my loss (think this was down to luck) however that was at the very start and I have not done it since and I would not recommend drinking on the diet.

It makes you so ill and puts your body through so much extra stress. Your kidneys are already working so hard to get rid of the extra protein that alcohol is just going to put your body through even more strain. And you know how you have no feelings of hunger now? They will all come back if you break dukan and come out of ketosis then you have to work even harder to get back in to it.

It's up to you what you want to do but I would say that 99% of dukaneers on here will advise you against it and they are the ones to listen to as they have had the most success.

I can't see your stats as I'm on my phone but do you have much to lose? Just thinking it's not worth drinking if you aren't gonna be on this for long as it will only increase your time on cruise.

Be warned for two reasons!
1 - calories or not in vodka, gin etc, drinking alcohol will kick you out of ketosis and slow or stall your weight loss.
2 - hangovers, even if you don't "normally" have them - your body will get dehydrated MUCH more quickly as it's in ketosis and your kidneys are filtering like fiends to get rid of ketones from your system.

My professional life revolves around meetings which have a "social drinking" element. I've written in my diary about how much I have noticed my alcohol intake was creeping up before starting this diet. I guess it's down to you, and how you feel. Ask yourself this: What's the difference between a glass of wine and a slice of cake or a bowl of pasta? Probably not much, but if you are prepared to compromise on one, you will compromise on the others, and you are losing weight whilst compromising yourself.

If you feel that you need to have a drink to celebrate a social event or at a family gathering, stick to clear spirits - best drinks are going to be things like vodka and soda or gin and slimline tonic. Steer clear of cocktails, anything fruity, anything "brown or red" like wine or sherry and DEFINITELY give beer and lager a miss.

Sigh, I do pine for a Peroni now and again!

In all honesty, if you struggle with alcohol then this diet is not for you.

There is little point in adhering to the rest of the rules of the diet and then breaking a fundamental one, regardless of whether you might not see a difference - it's kind of a basic principle. After all, you could easily eat a Mars bar or a bag of crisps and still continue to lose, but the entire point of the construction of the diet and how and why it works would be lost.

Good luck though!
