Help - what to wear to a christening?

I'm going to a christening next week and desperately need something new to wear but I'm useless at fashion and have no idea what!

I don't want to spend lots of money and could do with it being something I can wear again for work so nothing mega dressy. I'm pear shaped so nothing too clingy on the bottom half. I also have a rather impressive spare tyre too after the birth of my son/too much chocolate when pregnant!

Any suggestions as to the kind of thing I should be looking for would be greatly appreciated as I am clueless about fashion.

Something like an empire line dress either just above the knee or full length. I personally really like florals, but each to their own. A smart jacket would make is a bit more formal. It would help to know a bit more about how the day is going to be spent, is it just the ceremony, is there anything going on afterwards?

Understanted is probably the best way to go, but nothing to casual or it will look like you aren't trying :) Pick out a few outfits and try them on maybe?

Thanks for the advice. Ive just seen a nice one on the next website which could be suitable. It's been so long since I bought myself any clothes, I am so rubbish at it

Oooh Thelasstime,

It's so beautiful! I love the detail in the waist, and the back is pretty too. The colour and pattern are perfect for both a festive occasion and the office. I bet you look gorgeous in it.

Well picked! I hope you can find your size instore. If your branch doesn't have it, they may be able to order it in for you. When's the christening?

Waaah I really, really love the blue spotty one.... *drool*....

May have to get it, you can't argue with 20 pounds eh?

Are you getting one of them?

I live in Spain but I have asked my sister to see if they have it in her Asda.

I am now spending on the Asda site - i blame you Sue! xxx

Even though you need no encouragement to spend EB I will happily take the blame. Especially if you have found some of the amazing bargains to be had there

You see, I am such a good friend that you know and I know that I have just saved you a fortune. Those dresses are so reasonably priced.

Enjoy !!!!

I am hoping Gill has been able to get me the navy one. I am doing our super prestigious antiques fair in august and with trendy, chunky pearl accessories it would look so right.

Ooooh love the Asda ones, am going to have a look tomorrow. No joy with the Next one  Gutted cos I really think it would have been perfect, but hey ho. Am on a mission to find something suitable tomorrow so will keep you posted.

What kind of shoes do you think would go with the spotty one???
