Muppet question alert: Rice!

Hi all - does anyone know how much 40g of dry rice weighs when cooked?

I'm starting the 1,000 plan next week and wanted to use the microwave rice pouches and take my portion from there, but can't figure out the equivalent cooked weight!

I read on average it doubles in weight i.e. 40 grams of dry rice weighs 80 grams when cooked although it depends on how it is cooked and also the type of grain i.e. long / short etc.

I do wonder whether in the case of the microwaved sachets it would be the same? Are they the ones where you don't add anything to them, not even water?

If so, then surely they would stay the same weight as it's just the same as reheating??

Hello,
If it's any help - in my old Weightwatchers days both a 60g portion of uncooked rice and a 150g portion of cooked rice were 3 points. On that basis it seem that rice increases by 2 and a half times it's weight, so your 40g uncooked would weigh 100g cooked...

Hope that helps!:)

You don't add water to them (apart from the new Rissoto pouches which you do add 100mls) but the rice is previously cooked and hence the weight of the pouch is a cooked weight and not an uncooked weight. So if for example the pouch weighed 300 grams then in theory the original rice may only have weighed 150 grams.

Thanks, everyone!

I got brain-scrambled and looked it up on weightlossresources, using the food search index. Acording to that, 40g dry = 85g micro pouch, looking at the calories and carbs. So it looks like twice the weight cooked, whatever way, is right.
