Migraines

Hi everyone, I was just wondering if anyone out there also suffers from migraines and finds that their diet plays havoc with them? Just as a bit of background, I used to get migraines 4ish times a month, but my doctor put me on some diet supplements which have really really helped. However, with my diet I tend to find that my weight plateaus for a week or so, and then suddenly I lose the whole weeks weight in a day, and that day I get a migraine. I try to be fairly consistant with my diet and I honestly have no idea why my body holds on to the weight and then loses it so suddenly, or why this is always accompanied by a migraine. Has anyone else had a similar experience? I'd be really grateful for any advice because getting sick so often is really really ruining my diet and making life quite hard.

Oh sorry, just to clarify, when I said diet supplements, I meant things I take for the migraines, not for the diet.

Hi TTfan, sorry you're feeling so bad. Migraines are a nightmare! I know that for me its something in certain air fresheners that sparks me off and I have to put myself in a dark room for the day. It can also be triggered by aspartame which is used a lot in low cal or sugar free foods, nitrates also trigger migraines, nitrates are mostly in cured meats or salty stuff, might be worth cutting out foods with aspartame or nitrates and see if that might help.

Hope you feel better chick :) xx

My Migraines are cuased by food intolerrances. Your best bet is to go and see a homeopathic dr for an allergy test, this can cost around £70 but its the best £70 I ever spent.
I also use something called Migrastick, which I buy from Holland&Barretts and its a godsend for headaches and migraines when you cant take anymore pills.

Sorry you're struggling with so many migraines, they're awful. :(

When you lose fat, any toxins that were stored in the fat are released into the body. If this happens all at once to you each week then your body may be reacting to this? At different times I've had migraines triggered by this type of reaction, as well as severe headaches with as much pain as a migraine but without the accompanying symptoms I usually get like nausea, visual aura etc.

I know it's hard when a migraine is in full swing, but drinking plenty of water (a healthy amount) should help your system flush itself out. As previously stated, avoiding things that place your body under a higher load (nitrates, sweeteners, chemical additives etc) or any foods you are intolerant to could also help with this as your body has less to cope with then. Since I've cut this stuff out my migraines are much less frequent and easier for me to knock on the head quickly. Good luck!

Tomatoes!!!! Don't have anything with tomatoes in, or fresh tomatoes. I read it somewhere, tried it and migraines stopped, if I eat anything with them in I get migraine back. I've told a few people about this and it has worked for them too. Also not too much citrus fruits, oranges, ect...
Hope it helps you :)
