Protein = glucose?

ClaireCat

On a mission for boobs!
I think I might have discovered why I'm not really losing. Too much protein.

I just disovered (which is surprising seeing as i have the book and must have blinked passed this bit) that my daily ratio of calories should be split into 65% fat, 30% protein and 5% carbs.

Apparently excess protein turns into glucose?! Is this right?

I'm hoping this is the reason for my stalling.

yes did i mention this yesterday sayin you needed more fat than protein x wierd cos this is the opposite of dukan and that works?

Yes, those are the ratios you need to enter on Fitness Pal.:)

Yeah, thats what I was fixing earlier! Not sure what to have for dinner now!

Its probably a good thing for me to be using now because I think I was maybe od'ing on protein.

How many calories do you guys enter into myfitnesspal? Ive got 1550, so just wondering!

ADD MEE as a friend :) LVLLT

i move my cals depending on what amount of carbs i want but im only on 1200 today but thats cos im doing my own thing x

cool added you. change settings so can see your diary...if you like - you can see mine x

I thought I had set it to public? *off to have another look*

nope...im confused. I've set my diary to public and my profile to public too.

Can you still not see me?

Note that the percentages are of calories not weight (which is what myfitnesspal is measuring in g). Since fat has more calories that protein, i think i worked it out before that you need approx the same grams of fat as protein in your targets and that gives you your 2:1 ratio on the calories.

Hope that makes sense!!,
Xxx

No...im confused! lol! :p

Say what now?! Can you add me so I can see yours? I'm struggling as to what to have for dinner because its going to throw my protein way over i think.

In my fitnesspal - you want the grams of protein and grams of carbs to be approx equal - this will give you your ratio of fat 65 ish to protein 30 ish to carbs 5

You can play with the percentages in mfp but then check grams ok

Here is an example (not perfect as i ignore a bunch)

Fat: 1 gram = 9 calories
Protein: 1 gram = 4 calories
Carbohydrates: 1 gram = 4 calories
Alcohol: 1 gram = 7 calories

God I feel so confused.

If I set it so that I get my carbs at the right amount, and my protein and fat about equal, im on 1200 calories?

Is that about right?

No... now I'm utterly confused.

I want to have 30g carbs a day, but to get it at that at 5% doesnt work. I'm now confused with protein and fat... im absolutely starving but terrified to eat anything incase i'm having too much protein!

You cant fix everything claire. I suggest you set the carbs you want ie 30 and the calories (what does mfp suggest overall). Then we can work out the others. Give me you target cals and ill help work it out

Heres an example using my target cal level

30g of carb = 120 cals 7.5%
111g fat = 1000 cals 60%
125g prot = 500 cals 31%

Total cals = 1620

I've listed the stuff I've eaten today. Got my cal at 1400, carbs 35g.

Hope it shows up ok on mfp - i've set it all to public, so I hope you can see it. Can someone let me know if it looks ok? I ate more protein today than it say's I should have, but I tried.

First attempt n all that!
