Hello :0
Just looking into the GI/GL diet and wondered how does it work? Ive been doing Low carb for over a year now (dukan and atkins) and need to be able to reintroduce carbs into my system without going overboard!
How do you work out how much to eat and what to eat etc? Do you have to count how many you have per day?
Help please :D
Any goods books?best book to buy?
Or is it worth signing up to sainsburys or tesco diets?

Thanks

Hi. The transition to GL from Atkins should be easy enough for you. You can include more good slow release carbs by limiting, wheat, potato, pasta and rice. When you have wheat, pasta or rice go for wholewheat and least processed options. Substitutes for these will be couscous, quinoa and beans and lentils.
Google glycemicindex.com for some good science theory of GL.
In my opinion, you dint need to count GL points etc once you get used to correct foods to choose.
My mantra is:
Most natural and least processed the better.
Choose more veg that grow above the ground. E.g broccoli rather than parsnip.
Substitute rye crackers and oat cakes for bread.
Include more beans and pulses and lentils.

Nigel Denby, Patrick Holford, Rick Gallop are all good reads on the subject. First google glycemic index and you will also find a lot if info. Post any queries on here and someone will help.
Good luck if you choose GL.
I love it and never feel deprived or on a diet.

thanks so much for the advice. Off to google xxx
