This one is for the girls! TMI

Soooo, I started my period yesterday (TMI, sorry guys) and I ended up drinking a lot of Mountain Dew to deal with the pain. I get pain so bad that I actually can barely get out of bed. The doctors in the UK are no help at all, they just try to prescribe me painkillers which I refuse to take because I know they are addictive over time. So I use a heating pad and tough it out. I had always been able to ease the pain by drinking a LOT of caffeinated stuff, but Mountain Dew Energy in particular really helps. I am not sure if it's partly the sugar or what, because i tried coke zero first and it didn't help (tho it has caffeine).

So anyway, do any of you ladies have this problem and how do you deal while on Exante? Does anyone know any natural pain relievers? I already take evening primrose oil, and ibuprofen, but I can easily take 6-10 ibuprofen a day and it barely touches the pain. That is bad for my liver so I don't like to do it for such little gain.

I am going to have to redo my 'start date' on here I think, because of the Mountain Dew. :( But.. you know... it was worth it. I was almost sobbing because I hurt so much. A few hundred calories to dull that was a price I willingly paid!

thank you! I will have a look. I am drinking another Mountain Dew at the moment. I suppose at the end of the day, having 4 or 5 sodas every few weeks is not the end of the world... it will just make things slower.

Hmm I remember being prescribed Mefenamic acid when I was bad with it all (got coil fitted now which has pretty much reduced it by 90%). Not sure if its available over the counter though. Have a 'herby' friend, will ask him about whats also available naturally. :)

What coil? I am clueless! Is it a birth control thing or specifically for uterine issues? Thanks for the tip about the supplement, I will check that out too.

Hello
There are contraceptive methods that may help you with period pain. The most common one used is the mirena coil. This is a hormonal coil that is fitted into the uterus (womb). It can be fitted for up to five years. Woman who are going through the change may use this to lessen the symptoms too.

Next is the contraceptive implant. This is a small rod fitted in your arm. Releasing hormone slowly over 3 years. Some people have irregular bleeding with it as you can't predict when you are going to bleed. I had one fitted 2009 and I have only had 2 periods since I have had it. Can't remember the last time I had one before Christmas I think. And I used to be really heavy, could not go to work coz of the pain.

The last one is the injection. This is injected every 12 weeks. And in most people their periods stop completely.

As with everything in life there are a few side effects but certainly worth looking into. It saved my life. And all contraception is free in the uk

All three methods work in a similar way. By inhibiting ovulation which means you don't release an egg each month. It puts your eggs to sleep basically so you don't get a period. It also thickensJust had a busy day at work. Can't tell you where the day has gone. Haven't has lunch yet and was planning to leave at 2. Sorry for delayed response. The locks being changed Monday x the mucus in the neck of the womb and thins the lining of the womb. Once in a while the lining come away and you get a very light bleed. It's more spotting than a proper period.

Go to your local family planning clinic, you can self refer don't need to go through GP

Hope this helps
