Has my body had enough of LL

LadyT

Tough But Sexy X
Hi all,

I am looking for some advice please. I have been on LL since the end of Jaunary. I have lost 61lb's and I am absolutely amazed and delighted at how coped with the plan and also how I look. I always said I did not want to be fat and 40, I was but I sure as heck am not fat and 41!! and I'm loving it!

About 4 weeks ago my doctor took me off total and agreed reluctantly that I could go onto Lite due to some underlying medical problems which had come to light.

This morning I have found my hair is coming out in handfuls, to the point I am starting to wonder if my body is trying to tell me it has had enough now. The problem I have is that I would ideally like to lose a little more as I could still be considered overweight on some BMI charts.

I realise hair loss is something that occurs with LL but still its playing heavily on my mind. If anyone knows of any hair suppliments that I can take whilst on LL I would be most grateful if you let me know.

I just dont know what to do for the best now, move to RTM or get to my goal and then start it. I already feel like I have compromised my goal weight by dropping it from the original 10 stone that I wanted to be due to the dreaded lose skin close to making an appearance.

Any words of advice would be most appreciated. xx

Oh poor you!! :(:(

It is listed as one of the common side effects of LL in the books. It happened to one of my group last year and she told me it took about 6 months for it to get back to normal.

I think there are supplements for healthy hair, and fish oils are supposed to help too. Your LLC may know what supplements are compatible with the packs.

Stress can also cause hair loss - and you have had a lot to cope with lately.

Having watched Embarassing Fat Bodies I'm also worried about loose skin. My jelly belly looks like a popped balloon at the bottom. I hoped all the exercise I'm doing would be enough - but watching this program maybe surgery is the only way to get rid of it. Eek!!

Although I wanted to lose another half a stone, I have decided to stop losing now. And work on my fitness and toning. I dont want to lose any more off my boobs, as they are starting to pucker a little too.

Your 6lbs could easily be lost during RTM, or you could try doing 2 packs 2 lite meals for a few weeks. xx

awww ladyt i had same happen to me, im just thankful i went into the diet with a real good thick head full of hair, it did upset me when it started coming out in handfuls, I bought some organic hair mayonnaise from boots its specifically for hair shedding, its only around £6 try that! im happy to say my hair is fine now but even if you stop the diet fully dont expect your hair to go back to normal as it wont happen honey :( it has to run like a cycle now, but trust me it will become less and less and then it will stop. I too was unhappy and quite horrified when i heard that could happen and my initial reaction was.......well if that / when that happens im stopping it but i didnt and im so glad i didnt. I honestly do believe the reason for the hair loss is due to lack of protein and a very good friend of mine, who is also a GP said the same, she looked at the back of each pack and done some investigating and she said it was the lack of protein! try and stick with it you have come such a long way and are almost there honey xx

If I started losing my hair, I would talk to my counsellor about introducing food again or stop because it's really NOT worth it in my eyes.

hey chick, id suggest maybe doing rtm as most people have still lost when doing that and if you still feel youd like to lose a tad more after you completed the full 12 weeks you cld do a couple of weeks abstinance or a few weeks lite? xx

I started RTM with a Bmi of 26 and 13lbs to go till goal. Im now on week 6 of RTM and only have 3lbs till goal :) It's an amazing programme and it was definitely the switch I needed to get me back into the zone. I would definitely advise it - I bled (as in had my period) for 11 weeks throughout the whole of total and it stopped in my first week! I had bags more energy and stopped picking as I was allowed to eat! Have a chat with your LLc and see what he advises xxx

Kaymarie understand what your saying about the hair loss but that happened i.e. talking to llc and there is nothing they can do, its in the books as a pssible side effect and its well known any VLCD can have that same effect........and once it starts to shed like i said earlier even if you stop LL the hair loss will still continue so no win situation

the hair loss really escalates once you start re-feeding. If you have gone on to LLL, and are now eating some food that is probably why you are seeing an increase. It does tend to come all at once when you start eating again.....the normal day to day shedding has been put on hold while in ketosis, conserving your bodies energy store which is perceived by the body as starving, so it stops all unnecessary functions - shedding being one of them.

Not sure if that helps any but might put your mind at ease - I know hair loss is a frightening thing for a lot of us on this diet. It will happen - but it is not permanent, and certainly worth the trade off :)

Good luck with your decision making. :)

Thanks everyone. BL you are spot on my LLC said exactly the same its purely because am now on Lite. Tracy, your comments are also accurate as apparently once it starts there is no stopping it, you have to let it run its course. I apparently can take hair, skin and nails tablets as that will help strengthen everything up once the shedding has taken place.

Excellant advice from you all so thank you, your comments were and are much appreciated.

I must not stress over this or it will escalate for sure. xx

I didn't realise the complexity of it when I posted my reply. I hope you come to the conclusion you need to :)

Hey, no worries! I knew nothing about LL when I started other than I could drop a significant amount of weight in a very short space of time!

I did a diet many years ago and lost so much weight but also lost some hair along the way. I see it as a result of years of food abuse, LL has cleansed the rubbish out of my body and it's going through a repair stage now! Sounds dramatic but I have to justify things to myself or I'm planning to fail.

The plan is to carry on with LLL until I go on holiday and then because I am si close to going into RTM my LLC has suggested I eat whilst away she is going to give me some books, this would have freaked me out a while back but not now. I know it's only a matter of time until I am completely back in the world of food, so must learn to put coping strategies in place to deal with my emotions.

Once I hit goal I will complete RTM which I am excited about! Xx

Well you certainly dont look your age, you look so young, very early twenties! xx

ooh can you come and sit in the corner of my livingroom to give me a compliment every day? i could get used to that. im at page 62 of your diary and i need to leave to get the kiddies from school. ive not posted on it yet as i dont want to say something without reading it all but already yoyu have inspired me. you are a fantabulous mother! and as a blonde? wowee!!! hot to trot!! xx

I ahd this happen to me too after being on a very low calorie regime for some months. What is happening is that new hair is coming through and pushing out the old hair, so dont worry. You cant do anything to stop it once it starts, but its because new hair is growing. I had about 3 months of hair falling out which started around November last year, I had thick hair anyway so I wasnt worried. My hair is just as thick now, so there was no long term harm done.

Hey lovely, lol I am sure you get loads of compliments, gorgeous girl like you :)

I cant believe you are actually reading my dribble lol. I am sure it means nothing to anyone else but its great to get it out of my head or it would drive me nuts lol

Aw my blonde days are gone now, I do enjoy being dark though its less hassle, well actually it isnt less hassle I still need to cover the greys regularly, but at least it is cheaper than going to the hairdressers on a monthly basis :)

My kids are my world, its so kind of you to say Im a good mum, i suspect most of us go through complete turmoil when it comes to dealing with our children and making the right decisions. xxxx
