You need to burn the fat off by losing weight and exercising. And tone the muscles to improve the shape and lose inches.

Since I have been doing The 30 Day Shred DVD my arms have really shaped up. They were very wobbly and had cellulite on them. Now looking much better!! Yay!!

You can't really spot reduce but you can work on toning and firming what you have got whilst you lose weight.

join us on the shred thread and go for it - it's only 20 mins per day. xx

thanks for your reply. i was doing the shred, started a thread about it a while ago, but i think that i only got to day 9 and then i started a running club and didnt want to combine the two. i have now finished my six week running course club and could do this now.
Okay i will start this tonight, or tomorrow morning.

Go for it! :)

Just measured my arms and have lost nearly an inch off each.

I alternate my running with the shred - so I don't do both on the same day. And have at least one rest day per week. The running helps with the fat loss and the shred tones me up.

If you are struggling just look at Jillian's arms and abs and keep going!! xx

i remember reading ages and ages ago that your arms are the easiest area to tone up. dont know how true that is.

the chances are if it is saggy skin, there is VERY little you can do to change it. You can tone up muscles til kingdom come but they won't be seen behind loose skin or additional fat. You cant spot weight loss either, it comes off where it comes off.. thats just in your genetics.

It's not really saggy, it is untoned. I wanted to loose a bit of fat from around my arms and tone it slightly. I noticed some of the women on Biggest Loser that had big arms, did slim them down, even though they did have a bit of excess skin there, they did look better.

Most forms of exercise will help increase your ratio of lean muscle to fat. But unfortunately, it does little to target your particular problem area that you are discussing here, the backs of your arms.

To do this, you need to do some exercises to firm up your triceps. Adding some tone to this area will definitely affect the jiggle factor. So here are a couple of exercises that can help:

Bench dips
Sit on the edge of your bed or a sturdy chair with your palms planted on each side of your hips and your fingers hanging over the edge. Walk your feet out a little so that your hips are off the bed; your butt should just clear the edge as you use your arms to lower yourself.

Keeping your knees bent, lower yourself until your elbows are at 90 degrees and your upper arms are parallel to the floor. Use your arms to raise yourself up and continue to raise and lower 12-15 times. Do two to three sets. As this becomes easier, do the exercise with your legs straight.

Triceps kickbacks
Use a small dumbbell or some substitute (such as a can of tomatoes or a bottle of ammonia). Bend over at the waist, resting your hand on a chair, so that your back is flat. Grasping the weight in the other hand, bring your bent elbow up to your side and keep it there. This is the start position.

Now, keeping your elbow pinned to your side, extend your arm back until the elbow is straight, then lower and repeat 12-15 times. Do two to three sets. As this gets to be too easy, increase the weight.

Resistance training (weights or straps) needs to be 'volume progressive' in order to replace lost muscle tissue, or build up muscle.

So, use triceps exercises with progressive resistance in order to build up muscle, in your quest to "tone up" arm flab.
