Periods & Weight Loss

Hi, just wondering if any of you girls have experienced what I am currently dealing with....
Bit of background - In 2000, after I had my 1st child, I could go months and months without a period. Diagnosed with polycystic ovaries. This wasn't a problem until we wanted another child but the doctor gave me some pills (can't remember what they were now) and got my periods to come back, and our 2nd child was born in 2003. After she was born, I was back to having about 7 periods a year. Fast forward to June 2010, I decided to go on a low fat diet (was approaching 19st ). From July onwards, I had a period every 28 days. Sorted I thought! Nope! Since December, the days between have been getting shorter, 26, 25, 24, 23, and 22 between April & May. Last period started 16th May. I then had a bit of bleeding on 25th May. Now today, 3rd June, I've started again! I don't understand what's going on. I did go and see my doctor in March but he wouldn't put me on the pill as my blood pressure was high and basically said live with it. He said my weight loss (I've lost almost 7 stone) could have been the trigger to make my periods regular again but it's getting worse, not better. If I don't count the day I bled on 25th May, that's 18 days between periods this time! Has anyone experienced this sort of thing please?
Thanks :)

Hi
Well done on the massive loss.
I haven't expereinced anything like this but I just wanted to suggest either going back to your doctor again whether it be the same one or a different one in the practice as you said you went in March when space between periods was getting shorter and shorter. However now, your may period, then a few days later then today- I think the doctor may be more inclined to ask for tests/ prescribe medication (depending on BP). You actually have the right to ask to be referred to the hospital about it. If he doesn't agree see another doctor. There has to be a reason. It may be something very minor indeed, however I feel you've been thinking about this for a while and peace of mind and reassurance is needed and only the medical profession can really tell you what is going on.
So good luck and let us know how you get on x

Thankyou very much for your reply :) Yes, you are right, this has been playing on my mind for a little while now. And now this 18 day cycle has just tipped it for me, had enough! I will ring the doctors on Monday to book an appointment and let you know how I get on. Thankyou :) x

Do you have a well woman/sexual health clinic you could go to. I had menstrual issues and the Dr attached to that clinic was a specialist and way better than my GP. Might be worth checking out.
Weight effects your hormone systems so I hope that it turns out to be nothing more sinister than that and that it will sort itself out in time - but if you are concerned then get it checked and keep going back until you have the answers you need.
Good luck !

Thankyou LMO :) I've booked an appointment with a different doctor (lady, cos she might actually understand what us girls have to go through!) for next Thursday. Will let you know how I get on x
