Just Dance

Due to lack of money, at the moment I am relying on my Wii to help my workouts. I am a dance teacher and so I exercise a lot during the week in lessons although it probably isn't as intense as a 'proper workout'. In my spare time I am using Just Dance 2 as a way of working up a sweat. I REALLY go for it - by the end of a session I am completely knackered, sweating - out of breath and aching. As I have quite an active job, I know my fitness levels are fairly moderate so I'm definitely pushing hard during these additional workouts.

Does anyone else use Just Dance for workouts? If so, how do you calculate it on myfitnesspal? If I have high intensity dance workouts, should I class it as 'dancing, aerobic, ballet or modern, twist'?

That's what I classed it as the first couple of times I did it, but I very quickly went out and bought a heart rate monitor so I can accurately log my burn. Lloyd's Pharmacy had them for just £12.99 and I just ADORE mine. Means I'm confident in eating back my calories too, cos I know it's accurate, not working on averages like MFP.
If you're already very fit, you may find that MFP hugely over estimates your calorie burn - I know it did for me, and I'm not teaching dance every day! lol

Hope that's of some help x

I've been putting it under that category :) but I've ordered a HRM off eBay now too. I'm just not convinced that I'm burning as many cals as MFP says :)

Thank you :)

That is brilliant advice about HRM - I will look into that. It would be good to know how much I actually burn at work too, as I don't currently log that as exercise cals :) I am nowhere near as fit as I used to be sadly - there's definitely a big difference between performing/rehearsing dance and teaching it. The amount I do must count for something though! I teach 3 days a week and work from home doing paperwork on the other 2 - which means I go from 'moderately active' to sedentary during the week. I like to workout on days I'm stuck at home :) I definitely feel a huge difference between my teaching and my workouts at home - I give it a lot more in the privacy of my front room than I would in class ;) I might log it as Dancing: General for now as that is slightly lower calories.

Thanks for your help! xxx
