Considering swapping to SW from WW.... advice?

Hi people.

I am currently on WW PP and up until now have been doing great and finding it easy to follow. BUT I just went on holiday for 2 weeks and on return have upped the amount of exercise I am doing and now I am really struggling with the amount of food I can eat, feeling really lacking in energy and constantly craving more food.

Have had a read up on SW today on here and I 'think' maybe it may suit me better so I can eat more carbs/protein to fill me up rather than just fruit and veg, which always seems to make me more hungry.

The local meeting is tomorrow so need to decide if I defo want to do this....

Oh, have been on WW 13 weeks and have had good losses, except for the odd STS and my holiday when I gained for the first time but only 3lb, and have lost 24lb so far. Am now 10st 7lb and my target is 9st.

Welcome to the SW pages. Ccongratulations on your losses so far. SW is a great lifestyle choice and is fairly easy to pick up. Why dont you have a look in the food diaries section and see what other people are eating to see if it would suit you. Good luck

You are allowed to go along to the meeting, sit thru the new member talk and meeting, ad you dont have to commit to joining til the end! That way you get a chance to decide whether you like the sound of the food optimising plan :)
Good luck whatever you decide

Congratulations to your losses so far - I too struggled with the restrictions of food on WW..I still think people don't eat enough food on WW - ddespite the fact that they can fill up on veg, but that's not very filling. So I defo think it's not enough carbs you can fill up on.

I've never switched from WW to SW straight away but I can imagine that you might gain a bit of weight in the first week - just simply because you can now eat a lot more. Don't take my word for it though - but even if you gain a bit of weight, that's probably good because your body adjusts to a new (healthier way) of eating. But it will go quickly. If you want to be on the save side I would suggest you start with red days first (but that's not a must either - it might just help your body to adjust to the amounts of food that you can eat)

All the best!!

SW may fit in better with your lifestyle. With SW you may find your losses are slower, but you won't go hungry & can fill up on those carbs you need for exercising.

Hi Hun, I am a former WW'er and tbh the losses are a little slower on SW. I struggled with the idea of free food - I would literaty eat all day everyday. Really, its about eating enough to satisfy your apppetite, so don't eat so much you feel stuffed. I try to avoid snacking unless hungry and try to only snack on fruit and veg.

Everyone is different I guess...I am a little food addict as well but SW doesn't make me eat more because I physically can't eat that much and the food choices on SW automatically make you crave less (if you stick to it properly ..).
I find that I can't drink a lot of drinks with sweeteners as they make me crave like mad (it needs to be a considerable amount though).

Yes, your losses might be slower but that is good!! You don't want to yo-yo - do you? And you don't want to count points for the rest of your life and never be satisfied I guess...

WW is good for fast results but I seriously think you won't get enough food and even if you have the discipline to stick to it it's not realistic to do it for the rest of your life..also, I find being hungry stresses me out and I get really grumpy!! I don't want to have to think about food all day - I got a life. SW is perfect because I don't have to worry too much about my next meal and whether it will fill me up or not...

I think posting here you will only get positive responses to move across lol

However, I have struggled with my weight since my late teens, tried many 'diets' but SW is the only plan that I have managed to stick to consistently. I'm 8lb away from having lost 3st, and to be honest I never imagined I would make it, but I know now that I WILL make it, because to me this isn't a diet, this is just how I eat now.

Yes, this is so true! Have you got any advice from people on WW to advise you on how you can manage this? Can you not eat your bonus points (if you even still get them, I haven't done it since it changed to the propoints!). Generally I think eating more unprocessed foods will help you whether thats within the WW or SW plans.

Maybe try and post the same thread on the WW board to get arguments FOR WW :) Might help you to make a sound decision!

I tend to cook from scratch anyway, don't eat a lot of processed food. For the past month I've eaten all my daily points, weekly points and ones gained from exercise, plus about 20 more and still lost weight "/

Posted on ww board too, no useful advice unfortunately.

Well you've nothing to lose by giving it a try, maybe a month or 6 weeks and just see if the plan suits you better? You can always go back to the dark side, and as the saying goes...nothing ventured, nothing gained - or in this case hopefully lost!

Lol well that's what I thought. Tbh the only thing that swayed me to ww initially was cost!!

Hi

I followed SW a couple of years ago and lost about 2 stone (not at target) then had two more kiddies close together and basically gained it again!

Anyway, I couldn't seem to get back into SW at all even though I tried month after month, so I joined WW. I felt very restricted with what I could eat and was lacking in energy ALL the time. I found it very awkward to cook a family meal and point it all correctly, and I was constantly trying to not eat much through the day, just in case I got hungry later in the day.

I lasted 3 weeks!

I re-started on SW and the feeling of liberation was so great. Even my husband commented on the sudden change in mood lol. Our meals have also become imaginative and healthy again :)

Take a look over in the food diary section, there are plenty of diaries so you can see what people are eating...mine is there too, I am finding I am satisfied with my meals now, and not 'worrying' constantly about eating/not eating!

Good Luck with your decision.

I just wanted to say, I've done both plans and would never ever ever do anything other than sw now. The freedom to eat free food and not worrying about having to count points is frankly perfect for me, and I'm finding it so easy to stick to. As others have said, there's nothing to stop you giving it a go for a few weeks. Good luck, hope to hear a success story soon!!

Hiya I've been doing SW since I.found out I was pregnant but have been doing lots of research and understanding of the WW PP as I've been considering the plan. I love WW and the new plan but personally after judging the pro and cons of both plans, I'm still swayed to stay with SW. I am good on portion control so very rarely over eat, you do need to be aware of your hunger signals.

As many people have said its all down to your life style.

My own personal reasons for staying with SW was as follows

1) No weighing any free food - which makes cooking meals easier

2) Milk is counted separate - I hated how you had to minus 5PP from your allowance

3) Fat free yogurts are free

4) Carbs are eaten more easily - I found it hard that Carbs were high PP especially when making meals that had carbs as a main ingredient such as Spag Bol

There are some cons with SW which i do find hard, but once I overcome them I was fine

I personally struggle with the limited Healthy extras, on WW its easy to have cereal for breakfast and then a sandwich for lunch. You do have to be more imaginative with your meals.

You will find syned foods ie chocolate/crisps are higher than PP, however that isn't always a bad thing as it helps keep me in control.

The last thing is that personally I find eating out can be a little difficult depending which restaurant you're visiting however I do find Indian and Harvester is easier to eat at then WW.

I hope this is some help. Since doing SW I've only gained 13lbs and I'm 38wks + 4 days pregnant.

The only thing is have you not considered doing the simply filling plan on WW? It looks similar to SW but as I haven't got the books I'm not sure of the plan in depth

Sorry for the long post lol good luck in whatever you decide to do x

i was the same as you, i was on weight watcher pp, was doing well, went on holiday only for a week, struggled to get back on it, i was craving pasta far to much, so i swapped to slimming world just my 2nd week on it, loving it :) and losing!

Well wish me luck, off too meeting at 7. Really thinking of going for it. I think ww simply filling is similar tbh but I'm annoyed with the whole thing now. Wonder if ive lost since my usual Friday weigh in, have pigged out a bit over the weekend as that's when I usually use all my weekly points. Fc.
