Consolidation The not so very secret diary of Atropos, 11 &1/2

Never actually got round to starting a diary when I first found this board, so the first week of conso seems like as good a time as ever.

Actually conso is a bit strange - I keep reminding myself that I am still following a diet, and that this stage is really just "cruise with extras" not a free-for all.

So to start with I've just added in the daily changes - 1 extra tblsp of oatbran, a small piece of cheese (bliss) and two small slices of wholemeal bread.

(And the biscuit recipe came just in time to allow for black pepper crackers with cheese! - I feel so decadent.

The rest is business as usual, with a beady eye on the scales, in case I see them sliding upwards.

I'm keeping my galas in cautious reserve - not as free-for-alls, but as ways of dealing with social eating.

I may be over cautious - but I know how easy it would be to relax and start eating "normally", rather than reinforcing the changes I've made so far.

Congratulations on getting to conso!

Welcome to the Wonderful Worth of Conso, Atropos! :)

As for the galas, remember that they're there for a very good reason so don't miss them out. Without those, our bodies will find it very difficult to get back to a normal dietary life. Apart from everything else, it feels fantastic to eat them! ;-)

Both Anja and Laura have taken an eminently sensible approach and, for the most part, treat galas as normal meals with normal food, rather than splurging on all kinds of crazy indulgences. Sounds as though that's what you're aiming for. Me, I do a bit of both!

congrats on reaching conso atropos, i'm looking forward to hearing about how it goes for you.

correct me if i'm wrong, but i thought the oatbran only increased to 3 tbsp once in stabilization. any conso veterans out there to advise?

Welcome to conso, Atropos! Yay for the cheese and fruit (and bread, I suppose).

As Em pointed out, you'll need to wait a bit longer for your 3 tb of oatbran (stab). I made the same mistake myself until Jo put me right.

Good luck and enjoy!

Oh thank goodness - I had no idea what to do with that extra tblsp anyway! It just made my galette too bulky!

It can't have done any hard, because the scales are actually down 2lbs this morning.

I'm still in my dressing gown - and not at work where I belong.

Guess I'm playing truant. It wasn't planned, I just don't seem want to go to work today.

Alas - I won't last. I'll be on the train in 30 mins or so, thinking up an excuse for my late arrival other than "didn't want to, so there".

What I really want is to go swimming, then have a nap. Sigh

ooooh another fabulous thread for me to grin at :D :D

Not quite "business as usual" cos remember you're PV six days out of seven... Which fruit are you having today? Moving into Conso at this time of the year is so much nicer than in the winter!

Could you look at the venison burger query in the menu section please?

My first peach today! I had half with my galette. Oh, the bliss!

To be going into conso in the fruit season - english strawberries, red currants, gooseberries, mulberries, raspberries, mulberries, figs, melons...

I've not got my book here, but I'm hearing bells ringing when I see figs..

Those bells can ring out - but if I'm sitting in my dad's garden in August, under the fig tree, and one of them falls into my lap, warm and ripe and ready to split, it will be angels I'm hearing, not warning bells.

Ha! I've only just worked out that I am missing that rush of energy ketosis provides.

Hence my reluctance to get out of bed and schlep off to work yesterday morning. I didn't feel tired - just lazy and content to sit in patch of sunlight with a cup of coffee, (like a lightly caffinated cat?)

Stop shaking that tree Atropos!! I can see you! Must say that I'm not a fig fan personally... :D but when my neighbours in the country knock to tell me to come and help them EMPTY their three cherry trees, I will shout "CONSO EUREKA" and grab the biggest bucket I can find!

I've always wanted to grow a fig tree AND cherries, plus a gorgeous little yellow plum called a Mirabelle! Well, one day if I have a big enough garden....lucky they fruit at different times!

I was surprised - my dad needed almost no space to grow the figs. They are against a wall in a narrow strip of soil left when the concrete of his drive was laid - rough, rough old soil.

And they thrive - he has bag loads of figs every summer and makes them into the most amazing dark sticky ice-cream (ice-cream is clearly an inherited passion!)

Sounds gorgeous! No, figs like their roots cramped in rubble and poor soil. And they're self fertile. I passed one today when walking the dog, figs already half formed and dripping over the wall. Cherries and Mirabelles need pollinators so more space to plant in pairs and feed well.
Sticky fig ice cream sounds yum.

Lost?

There is something very weird about answering questions about my change in appearance.

"How much have you lost?" they say - and I don't know how to answer.

Lost?

That makes it sound as if those lbs fell down the back of the sofa, that they might be hanging around somewhere, and who knows, might turn up again when I least expect it.

I chose to weigh 11 1/2 - and I worked hard to get there, and I am determined to work just as hard to stay there. I didn't "lose" anything.

So what word could I use in my reply to remind me that I have choices here? - that I am not just blown about by mysterious accidents, as if those 30 lbs were naughty kittens or odd socks and I had nothing to do with it?

(It's not that I want praise or a slap on the back - I just want to stop reinforcing the mindset that my body is utterly beyond any conscious decision making.)

Mmm I would be interested to know what he puts in his ice cream please Atropos because my tree is dripping this year. Fig harvesting time is always quite amusing in our household because it seems to involve me sending my OH up a ladder on a daily basis to get the best looking figs before the wasps do, because they are an unusual fruit in that they don't ripen any further once picked, so you need to get them when they are ready (but before the wasps)

Hmmm - if I know my Dad, he just mushes up figs with cream and sugar!

There is a reason why he developed type 2 diabetes 10 years ago (he does seem to have brought it undercontrol in the last few years!)

I find people don't want to ask how much I have lost (I think because they know I have been ill) so I just get 'you look well'!
