Starting back on Xenical after a break of 6 years!

Hi all, my name is Kay and this is my second time of using Xenical. I was prescribed it in 2005 and was doing ok, then we moved house and my new GP didnt agree with it (he always refused everything I asked for!) so that was that. I have moved house again and changed GP's and this time I have a very supportive doctor who has prescribed me some Xenical again, so as from tomorrow, I will be back on the X! the only thing is, its been 6 years since the last time, and if I am honest, I am struggling to remember what to do, I know that I need to eat a low fat diet but apart from that I am stuck, any ideas/suggestions would be gratefully received, I'm due back at the docs in 4 weeks, so ideally I would like to be a few pounds lighter by then, lol! Thanks x

Hi Kay and welcome back to xenical. Nothing has really changed apart from following the 5g rule..

no foods over 5grams of fat per 100gs
no more than 45gs of fat per day, you can spread it out over your meals if you wish.

everything you will need to know and a little bit more is here..

I'm sure you'll do fine, it always helps to have an understanding and supportive gp. I recommend that you do a bit of exercise too, build it up as you go on and drink plenty of water. A food diary is a great help, you can start one here in the diary section..

My fitness pal can help you keep track of food and exercise and can help you keep an eye on the calories, it's free to join and a lot of us use it.

Having a ticker in your siggy, can also help you to 'see' you goals, you can design your own, there are numerous sites that do them, this is one..

If you need anymore help, or want to ask any questions then you can post whatever you'd like in this section or pop by my diary, i'm always around.. good luck!!

Thanks bunny hops! just signed up to my fitness pal (as someone suggested) so until I get the hang of it again, I will work out my fat intake on there, I havent actually taken a tablet yet, as I am worried about the roast dinner I had last night coming back to haunt me, lol, but have seen eating low fat style today so will start on the tabs tomorrow, quite looking forward to it!

You'll do fine, try not to worry.. nothing will happen unless you go over the top;)

hiya and welcome to this lovely forum :)

keep in touch and let us know how well you are doing :flirt2:

Hiya Kay,
I cannot really add a whole lot more - other then the good advice that has been posted, I too have gone back on the blue pill after a number of years, you will soon get back into the habit of just looking a packet and noing whatis ok and what is'nt - plus there is alot of really good nice helpful people on this forum that even if you don't alsway post you can read there daily routines.

The biggest thing I found and remember again is that thier is alot of food that is still within the 5g per 100g - maybe not yer tesco finest gear but alot of everyday foods.

Ken :)

This 5g per 100g rule - I can't see how this works you could never eat things like mince meat bc that's more than the 5g?!?

Or do you apply this to snacks?! Not meals?! Xx

The 5g rules applies to everything you put in your mouth, including drinks!

I don't eat meat or fish so i don't have a problem with meat, however you can get alternatives, you just have to look for them.

You can get an extra lean mince that comes in under 5gs.

morning all, well today is my first day back on the tabs. I have gone onto "my fitness pal" to work out todays food, so if I keep to that, things should be fine. I have bought some Quorn Cumberland sausages for tea tonight, never had them before, are the alright?

i just make sure i eat 15gs of fat or less per meal, i don't really stick to the 5g per 100g rule, because then i feel like i'm too much on a diet reading labels and stuff, and i just want to change my eating habits more than anything, but myfitnesspal helps with that also :)

xx

Hi Kay, on the back of the packet where the nutritional info is, look for the column that says per 100gs, look down that column to where the fat is, if it's says it's more than 5gs then they don't fit with Xenical rules.. don't look at per serving.. i'll try to add a example...

click on the product details for each one, look down for the fat, those figures are per 100gs.

These are not good..

These are ok..

Hope this helps, as labels and packaging can be tricky!

I do sw which is very anti calorie and fat counting - so I don't! I've not looked at any labels and it's working I'm Averaging 1.5lb a week loss so it's obv working!! Plus I'm not restricted at all!! Xx

Rules are different for diets, be it sw, ww, lt, dukan...

sw rules are going to be a lot different to people who are taking Xenical on it's own without combining it with a different diet.

The rules are there to help us acheive maximum weight loss with the additional help of exercise. :)

Hi, thanks for all your advice everyone, I think the idea of aiming for 15g of fat or less, per meal will be the way I will probably go, I did try sw once but couldn't get on with it, think my downfall was having two many green days and what I wasnt eating in fat I was probably overdosing on carbs! I am sure like anything, the more you do it, the easier it becomes, I didnt go a bundle on those Quorn sausages to be honest, but there are plenty of other healthy low fat meals I can rustle up, just need to get into the swing of it again, it really helps having this forum though, last time I did zenical there was a xenical forum that roche set up, but it was so slow and not very user friendly, so one of the fellas set up a forum called "watch that fat" which we all started using, but it got too expensive for him to run, so he ended up giving up running it.

Hi Rach, I am enjoying being back on the xenical, and am feeling really positive that I will make it work this time. Have been pretty good, and must say, I don't feel the slightest bit hungry, in fact its 7.40pm and I haven't eaten since about 12.30pm, I am cooking dinner now, and am well within my daily allowance again. I am feeling in a happier mood too, so maybe there is truth in the saying, "you are what you eat"

Hey Kc i have just noticed we both have 76lb to go!! Glad you are enjoying being back on it, i know it can be hard getting into it again, but you seem to be in the right frame of mind!! We certainly are what we eat, i had a few bad days one week eating crap and i felt like crap :(

Hi lucylis and good luck!!
