Best very low fat cheeses?

Good morning,

I have been registered with this forum for quite some time but lost track of my weight goal over the last 8 month (it's my first year of marriage...)

I have gained 2.5 stone over this period (waaaah :-( ) also because I started working from home. I eat quite healthily but find that my cooking got out of control. I love cooking and I love to use loads of olive oil and cheese :) And I loooove nuts!!! But I guess on any diet these products have to be eaten extremely carefully (on 1 or 2 nights I ate a 300g bag of cashew nuts, each :) )

I also bake a lot and like to enjoy the rewards :)

Now I am back on Slimming World but since I am a Pseudo-Vegetarian (I eat Fish and rarely meat) I probably go for the Green days and occasional Extra-Easy...

Now one of my biggest downfalls is cheese and despite searcing high and low on google and this forum I couldn't really find a thread that's evaluating very low-fat cheese...I do have one restriction though: I don't want to eat processed cheese (just bought very low fat laughing cow triangle and its YUK!!!!)..

Does anyone know of an edible cheese here in the UK with 6% fat or lower??

Also, I kind of despise very low fat yogurt and cottage cheese - And I couldn't find the syn values for the 1.5 % version..Will it be my downfall if I eat the low fat instead of very-low fat version?

I have done SW in the past and kind of tolerated the VLF version but I really can't eat that stuff anymore - WORST thing is Mueller Light Yogurts...eeeeek!! Trying to just use yogurt and fruit instead...any more ideas?

Hi Judywoody

Here is a thread about low fat cheeses....

I like the Kerry Low Low and Cathedral City Light. Not sure what you mean by "processed cheese" (sorry to be thick lol) Cheese does not grow on trees so is always processed to some extent.

I also like the 0% Greek yoghurt. It is free but does not contain any fakey stuff so does not have the unpleasant aftertaste of some free yogs.

Light phildelphia has recently been promoted to a healthy A. I like the extra light version (Heb on green) for making creamy curries.

Oooooo I didn't know about philidelphia light, how much can you have as a healthy extra? Is it all the light versions or just the original one?

I'm guessing by processed cheese the OP is meaning cheese slices and dairylea type cheeses-judging by the comment ref laughing cow :)

I see what you mean lol

Thinking about it now, the Cathedral and Kerry are not very low fat, but are certainly cheesey and we all need some fat.

Judy - are you a quark fan?

Mmmhh...i'm not so sure about quark...in germany where I come from you can buy quark with a higher fat content:) but I guess that won't be free..haha..i don't buy it very often but if, it usually ends up in my cheesecake:) but you gave me an idea there...i will probably mix it with fresh herbs like chives and parsley, garlic and salt and dip it in ryvita:)
Thanks for the link..must have missed that...yes by processed cheese I mean stuff like those slices or laughing cow..

I will try the greek yogurt but I think it might be a bit dry..if anyone knows the syn value of real greek yogurt or the 1.5% version that would be much appreciated...i feel tempted to mix it with the very low fat version..that makes it more edible;-)
