Coke Zero

I know a lot of people on here drink Coke Zero but honestly, if you can do without it do, it contains aspartame which is an incredibly dangerous artificial sweetener 'considered by many health experts to be one of the most dangerous food additives in existence. Despite a significant amount of controversy, aspartame is frequently associated with cancer, neurological disorders including Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease, and a very long list of other conditions and unpleasant symptoms'...
Just be aware of what you're putting into your body. We are trying to get 'healthier' after all as well as losing weight. I wouldn't touch the stuff.

i've heard of that before, its in a lot of diet drinks isn't it :( doesn't stop me loving a vodka and pepsi max though - think i block it out of my mind ....

God yeah, it's so terribly bad for you, I drink G&T, the lower-calorie tonic sometimes has aspartame in it as well. After having seen so many documentaries on it, and the fact that it is banned in many countries it amazes me that people still put it in their bodies! I wouldn't drink fizzy drinks if you paid me x

is tonic an acquired taste? Cos i don't like anything in my vodka that doesnt fizz :(

There is also a lot of hidden nasties in processed foods i try not to think of lol - i guess secretly i'm hoping i'll get hit my a bus at 70 and not have to worry about any of it

Im going to chance it lol Since the other VLCDs actually have it in their packs and Exante doesnt I reckon Im still to the good...

Besides they tell us everythings bad for us ;)

I tried this with my last diet and to be honest i thought it was horrible and it doesnt taste anywhere near like coke...I have diet coke now as its alot less in kcals and i love the taste (even prefer it more than normal coke) x

Thats still a totally different type of diet - actually a the risk of sounding rude Im hesitant to call what youre doing a diet - to Exante though, if youre undereating thats a whole other ball game. Having diet coke on a PROPER VLCD means you end up out of ketosis. Diets like Exante arent just about the calorie intake.

Eating less than 500 cals a day sounds extremely dangerous

On top of all that's been said about asparatame, Coke zero contains E331 aka sodium citrate aka citric acid which can counter ketosis. It also contains caffeine which can induce hunger. I'd stay away from it if you can.

I don't follow the exante plan but i follow a VLCD which was set up and advised by my doctor and nutritionist for which i am being monitored by and is very safe :)

tbh they tell you everything is bad for you they said deodrat causes cancer so everything has pros and cons if we was to listern to every single health warning we would live in a bubble eating hardly anything
im not haveing a go i just think the warnings on everything gets to much at times seriuosly if it was that dangerious it wouldnt be on sale to much of anything is bad but a little in modaration is fine x

Coke Zero is well documented by all the VLCD companies as being perfectly safe and wont knock you out of ketosis. The amount of citric acid in E331 compared to diet coke which has citric acid as an ingredient is minimal. Even Exante bars have a degree of citric acid in them :)

Glad to hear it :) But it definitely sounds a whole other ball game to Exante etc. ketosis is a key factor in getting through them, which is why we wont risk things that will knock us out of it - diet coke being one of them sadly

It doesn't matter what it is, researchers will always find something that is bad for us in everything! :)

I believe you would have to consume a lot of Aspartame for it to cause cancer...

There are plenty of things in this world that are bad for us.

Saying that... Aspartame DOES cause my son's eczema to flair up so for him it is a no no!

I completely agree with you on the Aspartame. Have you read the book 'Sweet Poison' by Dr Janet Starr Hull? She almost died from Aspartame Poisoning so it is a real problem.

There are diet drinks that don't have it though, such as Asda Diet coke and Sainsbury's Diet Coke and with all the water we have to drink on this diet sometimes it's nice to have a treat. If I want something other than water I will treat myself to a bottle from one of those stores.

The Exante diet prides itself on not using Aspartame in it's product too.

I have read it Antari, excellent book as is Dr Mercola's Sweet Deception, lot of nutritionists in my family too and I wouldn't put it near my body, it's poison...I fear people don't actually want to hear when things are bad for them, and I understand that! Just putting the facts out there. People did say cigarettes were safe at one point too and mercury tooth-fillings, now they know better... just be aware, that's all! I don't expect to change people's minds if they don't want to do the research...just be aware of what you're putting in your body
