Blob Alert

Hi,

Im relatively new to Slimming World, only joined 5 weeks...possibly 6 (im having nightshift mind freeze!) and have lost 9.5lbs. The thing is I have about 6stone left to lose and it feels beyond me. I am fully aware of taking it stone by stone but the thing is I ran the Bupa 10k on 15th May and seeing the video of me crossing the finish line just makes me want to cry . I look like a complete blob. I finished it 74mins and it was my first one, raised some money towards Cancer Research too but i just can't bare to look at myself now. I want to keep running but now I have a complex! Need some motivational speeches I think, or perhaps I need to just give myself a slap and tell myself to wise up

Anyone who has lots of weight too lose got any hints and tips...

After 5-6 weeks of joining sw you're only 4.5lb away from losing a stone :D
I joined in January and since then I've lost over 2st, I haven't been on the diet for well over a month because of exams. But my last exam is tomorrow hence why I'm up this late stressing and can't sleep. As of 10:30am 2morrow I'll be a free unemployed lady so I've joined a gym, I've joined the most expensive not because they have the most high tech equipment but because their excercise machines don't face a mirror. So I know exactly where you're coming from, but Instead of beating yourself up about the way you look in the video, remember that you've lost 9.5lb and losing weight slowly means it will be harder to regain the weight. You're doing amazingly well :)

hey Jodes,

congrats on 9.5 pounds and running 10k! thats pretty amazing stuff! you should be very proud of yourself.

theres loads of people on here who have lost masses of weight who will be able to support you but it doesn't matter how much you have to lose, it can and will be done.

you just have to stay motivated, use that memory or photo of you see where you've been and keep telling yourself you're not going back there.

SW is a great plan , it really does work but you must follow the plan, if you're meant to have 1/3 superfree then you must have 1/3 superfree.

Don't look at yourself if you don't want to. The plan will still work. One day you'll look down and really see the result of all your effort.

Keep running, fill in your body magic sheets and get some shinies for it too, its all motivation.

Do you stay to image therapy or do you weigh and run?

Good luck, you'll find plenty of friends and support on here.

ps its always a good idea to start a food diary or weight loss journal, it helps to be able to write your thoughts down for like minded people to read, very cathartic.

Hi jodes

Well done on the run and that's a really good time. I completed the Bristol 10k in 1:25 so u did better than me.

I have lost nearly 5 1/2 stone and still have about 3 to go but looked at the online photos of me running and cringed, they were not good. But I don't think many people will look their best when they've just run for over an hour. A colleague ran the 1/2 marathon (he's really fit) and told me not to watch the video as he watched his and he looked terrible, no on looks good on them apparently. So I haven't seen it.

Also when I run and I think what the hell must I look like I just keep saying im running and doing something about it so don't care what others think.

U will get to where u want to b, if I can u can.

X

Well done on your 10K that is brilliant and something I couldn't ever imagine being able to do, am doing my first 5K this year and panicking about that!

I've lost 1 1/2 stone and I hate to admit it but have about another 5 stone to go to be in the "healthy" BMI range, what I've done this time round (bar just saying it above!) is look at it in short goals, my first 1/2 stone, then stone, 1 1/2 stone now aiming for my Club 10 (fingers x'd I'll get it tonight!) and then I'll be aiming for 2 stone and I keep breaking it in little chunks.. Hopefully that might help you x

Each and everyone of us on here is different, but we are all here for the same reason, to lose weight, Everyone has a different reason for being here, Mine is when my 5 year old daughter came over to me and said '' Daddy look at these pictures I have taken with my new camera'' As I was looking through them I was horrified when I came to one photo she had taken of me washing up without me knowing. I was so big you could hardly see the window behind me. I just kept looking at it, thinking there was something wrong with the photo and I couldn't be THAT big. That night I cried myself to sleep, the first time since I was a child.
The morning was a new day, I had to lose weight, for myself, and for my family. It was the jolt I needed, The trigger that started a new life for me. So hold on to that memory of the video, because that could me you secret weapon that's going to spur you on to a new you and a new happier life.

As for the 10k Be proud of doing it, Some people wouldnt even think about starting it let alone finishing it !!

bless you Bige, thats a horrible awakening. But well done you for getting on the wagon.

Jodes, I understand exactly how you feel. I joined SW 2 weeks ago, 2nd weigh-in is tonight. I have 6st 7'lbs to lose, so far have lost 5.5lb's.

Sometimes I think of how much I'd like to lose and it seems impossible. I imagine losing 1lb a week and feel depressed at how long it will take me. However, there are so many things you can do to help. Going on a longterm weightloss journey is tough, but you can do it.

Going to classes has been great for me. Both weeks I have found my motivation and willpower lagging around about now, but going to class really inspires me. So I'm glad you are doing that.

When you have a lot to lose, it is good to break it down into little targets. Don't focus on that 6st, focus on something smaller that seems easier to obtain. For example, a friend of mine has a big birthday party in July, so I'm focussing on trying to shift 2st for that and be able to fit more comfortably into my clothes, or even but something new. So I'll still be 15st something with a long way to go, but it is an achievable target and I know I will feel good.

I read a great tip today in a newspaper. You've lost 9.5lb's right?? Go to your supermarket, find some 1lb blocks of lard and put 9lb's worth into a basket. Now walk around the supermarket for a bit. Feel the weight of the lard, take a good look at the blocks of pure fat in the basket. Now imagine all that being stuck back on your body. You've done amazingly well so far, don't knock losing 9.5lb's, when you see it in pure fat you realise what a lot of weight it is!! Celebrate your achievement to date, break down your overall target into smaller achievable blocks, and go for it. You can do it, and you will :)

It's not unachievable you know. It will take some hard work and resisting temptation on your part but you can do it. I'm coming up to 4 and a half stone gone in 19 weeks. I've still got another 10 stone to lose but I know I can lose it because I'm not looking at the bigger picture, I'm revelling in the here and now, enjoying being 4 and a half stone lighter and looking forward to getting the next 4 and a half off before Christmas.

If you don't do something about it you will only continue to get bigger. You don't ever want to get to the stage I was at. Just take things one day or week at a time...give yourself little goals, look forward to your next weigh in day, not the one 6 months down the line. Time passes pretty quickly when you don't think about it too much. xx
