iv done an hours vigrous exsercise today to the point of being sick then weighed myself straight after and it showed no loss, does anyone know if it would show up on the scales straight away or if it would be tomorrow or how long it would be to show up on the scales...im really dissapointed right now:(

Even if you did 'lose weight' on the scales after the gym it would only be from dehydration, fat doesn't just evaporate :D

People, you have to get past this scales obsession! What happens hour by hour or day by day has no relevance, weigh yourself weekly.

Got to agree completely. I exercise a lot. I run every second day. The scales have no relevance to what you've just done. They're a tool to tell you how you're doing at regular intervals. The only thing you'll lose straight away by exercising is water from sweating.

Totally agree with the above. Also wanted to add that your body continues to 'burn' for hours after exercise, so it wouldn't show up anyway.

I weigh daily because for me it keeps me on track. I would say that if you are feeling disheartened by the lack of movement on the scales then weigh weekly only.

Hope that helps.

Even if it could show up - it wouldn't, sorry Kirsty. An hour's strenuous exercise might burn 400-500 calories, absolute tops - and probably a lot fewer calories than that.

Unfortunately, you need to burn 3,500 calories to shed a pound in weight. So that would be 5-6 straight hours of strenuous exercise.

And even then, that pound that you'd burned off might not show up at the scales because your muscles and joints would probably retain water (to repair damaged muscles). In fact, it's actually quite likely that all that exercise would make it appear that you'd gained weight (even though it would only be water retention.

You know... IMHO, if I were you, I'd steer clear of strenuous exercise for now. If I remember rightly from your other posts, you've got a fair bit to lose and you're only in your first week. All that's likely to happen is that you'll get hungry and end up eating. Once you've been on SS for a couple of weeks, it's fine to do some exercise, but it's probably best to build up gently. Do some walking, swimming - things that aren't quite so tough on your body.

And yes :) stop jumping on those scales! If you do the diet 100%, you cannot fail to shed fat, okay? :hug99:

I don't know about anyone else, but I don't exercise to lose weight. As Lily says, you have to do an awful lot of exercise to lose a pound, it just doesn't work like that.
I diet to lose weight...and I exercise to stay healthy. I think it makes it easier for me if I think about it like that:)

I completely agree! I've been on SS for 2 weeks and when I do anything, e.g. was doing a lesson gardening with my pupils, I felt completely dizzy and weak. That was an hour of gentle digging and fetching! Was thinking about gymming it again this week but after that it may be a bit longer.

Take it easy until you feel upto doing exercise and even then be careful not to overdo it!:)
