Atkins v's Dukan??

Hi there

I am new to this thread and have joined the Dukan forum to get some info as I am totally new to it. I thought I understood it but it appears I am getting things wrong in regards to the little things. Ie the fat free yoghurts and sugar free drinks etc. I am only on day 2 of Dukan by the way.

I am now wondering whether I should go over to Atkins as this seems a little more flexible, given you can eat cheese/cream etc. I had read the Atkins book years ago and I understand it has changed since.

From what I remember….Induction phase no more than 20g of carbs per day. Unlimited lean meats/poultry/fish. Cheese, cream (no milk) and no fruit.

Now the things I don't remember….

How long to do induction phase?
When can you introduce more non starchy veg?

I don't have that much weight to lose – perhaps 7-10lbs and Dukan fans are not sure it’s the right diet for me. I have lost 14lbs on weight watchers but have hit a plateau (that’s lasted a year!!) and I can not seem to shift anymore weight, which is why I want to shake it up with a low carb diet.

Has anyone done the Dukan before Atkins and what were your thoughts?

Your reply is much appreciated

I did it the other way around. I did 6 weeks on Atkins then stalled. I then swtiched to Dukan and put on a pound and felt quite rubbish! The tummy trouble was the worst part.

I'm now back on my own version of atkins, but using myfitnessspal as well. Basically like ongoing weight loss part of Atkins but lower fat. Working so far!

Good luck whatever you decide. :)

Hello!

I came over from Dukan as it was making me feel really ill!
You've essentially got it in a nutshell, you can also have oils and butter as well.
Induction phase typically lasts 2 weeks but you can stay on it longer if you have more weight to lose.

One you move on to Phase 2 (OWL) you begin adding more carbs and working your way up the 'rungs' until you find a level that your body can tolerate.

Personally, I much much much prefer Atkins! I felt so so ill on Dukan
Good luck :D

thank you

thanks for getting back to me. I think I am going to go to Atkins... i've just been and bought some low fat cheese and cucumber!!

are those fridge raiders atkins friendly?

Converted to Atkins!!! xx:D

Another converter from Dukan to Atkins here. Sorry but all that low fat AND low carb totally did my head in. I'm on day three of Atkins and feel much better as I'm not fixated on what to cook or eat next. Welcome, and btw, I think the cream cheese shouldn't be low fat on Atkins :D

Well, I've been thinking about dukan. I had a second week where I STS, and to be honest was so demolarialed I had a carb fest lasting...6 days! I'm not back on induction, but wondering if dukan might be better to get things moving. I clearly have a prblem with cheese...

I lasted 5 days on Dukan, lost 4lb and regained it instantly. I only tried it because I don't eat much cheese anyway but fell fowl of the yoghurt thing too.

Basically its fat free plain or WW toffee or vanilla. I was told it had to be sugar free too but looking at the WW pack it says contains sugar.
Now I make strawberry jelly with 2/3 water and 1/3 cream and split it into 4 mousses. Nicer than youghurt and Atkins friendly as long as you only have 1 per day and don't have cream elsewhere.

U can only have fat free. I had a muller with choc sprinkles and although it is fat free appRently u can only have the plain vanilla or toffee. I also thought u could drink any sugar free drinks but not the case, nothing with fruit in it.

To restrictive!!

Can u have un sweetened yoghurt on atkjns? And diet drinks are ok aren't they?????
Xx

I fell fowl of that too! xx

I did atkins lost quite a bit, had a weekend break, gained a lot, started dukan got to goal, couldnt maintain on dukan principles (if i dont want to introduce bread and pasta what do i do) and ended up gaining again. Came back to my home of atkins and got to goal (yes im not there now just got back off holiday).
I love atkins and so much easier to maintain as i love my cheese and not so bothered about fruit or yoghurts.
Only thing i miss is dukan porridge.

Im on about 40g carbs per day now on atkins so can have tomatoes (the veg variety before anyone comments;) ) and a lot of the other veg i had on dukan.

Dont think either diet is a quick fix, but a lifestyle choice,a dn atkins suits me fine.

after induction there are some lower carb ones - total maybe? just need to check the pack and include in your carb allowance. Only in owl and after though

Hi Vikki,
Is there a problem with toatoes?

Haha sorry, think you've become victim of an in joke! We also call alcohol 'tomatoes' because when Vicky looked up wine on My Fitness Pal it said the unit size was 'half a tomato' lol
