Ear syringing or hopi ear candling??

big bear

A bear on a mission!
I've got an extremely sore ear, it's affecting the whole side of my head & jaw. I've been to the drs and she said it's very hard wax & I need to put olive oil in twice a day & she'll syringe it next week.

My Mum said to get the ear candling thing done as safer. What are your opinions please.

Any one had their ears syringed? Did they feel much better after?

Ear candling, any one done this? Or is it another one of these things that don't work.

What should I go for?

Thanks

My husband had his ear syringed not painful at all and he was a lot better after.

I would personally go with the doc.

No idea about candling, don't know what it is. But I did have to have my right ear syringed last week. I have had it done before, so I did know to put the oil in for a week before going.

It was fine. It feels odd, and sounds very loud in your ear, but it doesn't hurt and everything feels so much better afterwards (although you do wonder why everyone is now SHOUTING!).

I used to have my ears syringed a lot as a child. Anna is right - it's very loud afterwards and if it's cold / windy your ear canal can feel cold (suggest some cotton wool if you need it)

I've never used the candles but a friend of mine has & liked it.

Personally, I would much rather go with the Dr, less likely for things to go wrong. The candles make me rather nervous :S

Had mine syringed once (had to do the oil thing first too). Was dreading it but it was completely painless and quite a nice sensation. Have never had to have it done since. Personally I would have this over the other thing (even though I havent a clue what it is) because you may have an infection and at least a trained nurse could see that

Iv not had either done before, but looked into ear candling a while back, and i found out that the NHS discourage it, so personally i would go back to the docs. x
