My 8 Week SF Challenge.

Hi all, after losing 2 stone on slimming world, my losses have really slowed down and I've decided to try something different.

My friend recently won a competition where she will receive a free weekly supply of celebrity slim products, for 8 weeks - but must log her losses each week on the radio! Initially I was gong to start - celebrity slim (to support her) but as sf is cheaper, here I am.

Will be following the 3, 2, 1 approach and, (correct me if I'm wrong) having:

Breakfast - shake
Snack
Lunch - shake
Snack
Dinner - 500 - 600 cals
Snack

All snacks to add up to 300 calories per day?
This is slightly uncomfortable for me at the moment as I've perviously been on slimming world, I'm not used to counting, but I'll get round this :p

I'll also be logging my exercise here - which will be at least three times a week, currently following the C25K programme as running race for life in June.

Okay that's enough babble :p

Day 1 - Tuesday 10th May.

At the moment I only have the vanilla and strawberry shakes (didn't know if I'd like them!) so am working with those at the moment, but if anyone has any sf product tips/advice on what to buy - send it this way!

Day 1 has gone surprisingly well, definitely not as hungry as I thought I would be, but perhaps that's still the shock of drinking a milkshake (I don't like milkshakes!)

Breakfast: Vanilla sf shake

Snack: Grapes (2 handfuls)

Lunch: strawberry shake

Snack: more grapes

Dinner: salad, jacket potatoe, boiled eggs and tuna.

Snack: muller light yogurt

Okay, the vanilla shake tastes smelt and looked like melted ice cream! Drinking it from a Tupperware on the way to work did little to stop me feeling like I'd just been trough a drive though!

I snacked on grapes as I already had these at work, but will look on to getting some sf snacks.

The lunch time shake (strawwwb) was surprisingly thick AND filling. I was going to have my second snack with my lunch as thought I'd be really hungry.. But wasn't!
It also took me about 15 minutes to drink it, but not sure if that was the smell...

For dinner I had salad et al - with a saving grace potato. Although my efforts with hindered somewhat when a friend on facebook suggested I should be avoiding carbs! Eek! Will work on this for Day 2...

Good luck:)

Hi Elaine :) Welcome to Slim Fast! I don't think avoiding carbs altogether is a good idea, it's better to have everything in moderation. It could be a good idea to cut down on carbs, but I wouldn't recommend cutting them out altogether. I couldn't cut carbs out anyway, I love pasta and potatoes too much! Lol.

I bought loads of the SF snacks, but I'm not going to be buying any more, as I don't think they're very healthy. Fair enough they're under 100 calories, but they're quite high in fat and sugar. I think I'm better off having fruit or yoghurts instead.

Also, I love how you wrote 'salad et al' :D Reminds me of researching psychology studies! :)

Ha - thanks Emma!
Everything in moderation is key - I know... But having come off slimming world (literally Monday was a sw day then I started this the Tuesday morning) I feel that I already eat very healthy and now naturally favour either a carb or a protein heavy day. I think I am going to stick to this food combining, for my 500 - 600 calorie meal, simply because I have so much weight to lose - and will probably go back to sw after I've tried sf for a bit/to lose the rest of my weight and I don't want to make it harder for myself! Definitely couldn't cut cabs though - I LOVE bananas!!

hmm I see what you mean! Well, I'm currently with an ample supply of muller lights, Fruit and quavers... So perhaps I'll stick with those for the time being, and see how I get on!

Thanks for the comment Hun, appreciate the support! x

Wednesday 9th - Day 2.

Breakfast: strawberry shake

Snack *

Lunch: strawberry shake

Snack *

Dinner: mushy pea curry and chips! (Finally got round to making this sw dish when I'm no longer following sw! Ahahaha)

Okay so today I've found the shakes much more filling than day 1, really surprised me actually.
Got up this morning and was SO ravenous, but a strawberry shake sorted that! Didn't realise immediately though, but as I was off work I had a plan!

I made up a big tupperwear of salad!
This contained - salad, spring onion, red onion, beet root, one boiled egg (slicey slices) and some darylea cheese triangles (yay for 25 cal beauties) totally up to 300 calories. This is how worried about my hunger I was (hahah) I thought there would be no way i'd be able to get by on just two shakes - that I would be really hungry so I made up this salad to have between my lunch time shake and dinner.
Amazingly I didn't need it! So instead snacked on it throughout the day and even a bit after my dinner.

Is it okay to do this? Do you need to have the snacks between shakes? I did it this way as I figure this is calorie counting and the salad would equate to the three 100 cal snacks. Which also made me wonder.. Could you swap lunch time snack for a 250 salad?

Also - added some water to my second shake (to make it go further) and it tasted much nicer, will definitely be doing this again.

Bring on day 3!!!

I eat my snacks wen I need em sometimes with my shakes!
So I don't c y u can't swap as long as u stick to ur cals lovey!

Have a good day

sounds like it's all going well. I added the water and it's SOO much nicer.

I will say though (coming from a trainee personal trainer) you should absolutely NOT cut out carbs, especially if you are exercising. If you exercise carbs should make up 60% of your daily diet as this provides the energy you need :)

Well done though, it sounds like you are doing well.

I'm on day 2 as well and started off with a strawberry shake, I almost threw it up yesterday as it was horrible, but with water today it was so much better.

xx

Wishbird - yes, absolutely! Thanks so much for that tip.. how much extra do you add? I have just been adding, then tasting, adding then tasting to see how I got on.. but if I knew an idea ammount I'd add before I blend :p

Nix - THANKS! I know what you mean.. it tastes awful.. and I don't like milkshakes at all (think this is a good thing :p)

At the moment I've only got the strawberry and a little bit of vanilla left... so I need to purchase some more products, probably tomorrow. Any tips?

I'm now on Day 3.. and while I'm hungry, I do feel I'm getting there (I feel 'flatter' already, if that makes sense - not bloated at all)

I really don't know if I can keep this up for 8 weeks... I think 1 week will be a miracle!

I'm off out for drinks/dinner with friends after work.
My plan is to max out on diet coke and then either have lean meat with veggies/salad - depending on where we go. Eeek!

Is this a good idea guys? Haven't had my 2 snacks yet today.. to make way for extra calories I will consume this eve.

Thanks for the support everyone - tips greatfuly appreciated :D

Hi there!!

I am a fellow refugee from Slimming World! I started exactly the same as you, only last week (last SW weigh in on Monday morning, started SW on the Tuesday). I weighed myself Monday this week and I've lost 2lb.

The hardest thing for me to get used to was the fact that once you have eaten all of the calories (about 1300 on SF) that's it - no free food!!! Evenings are my worst time - so I tend to save up my snakcs and have them in the evening (not always 300 cals worth mind you, if I don't feel like it!). I agree with the others though - as long as you stick to the calories it doesn't matter where you have them.

Good luck and keep letting us know how you are getting on - there's a 'weigh in' thread on here aswell - so post your progress too!!!

Anita xx

Funny you should say that. I cant stand milkshake in general. I can tolerate this though. Maybe because it isn't 80% fat or something like that.

yeah I would got with the meat and veg for the meal if in doubt, protein :)

I'm dreading the weekend! No self control!

xx

Hii, I agree with everyone else, it doesn't matter when you have your snacks, as long as you use up your calories throughout the day, you'll be fine :)

As for the amount of water - I add water to make it up to 400ml, then add the scoops of powder. This amount seems to work well for me, but you could add more/less if preferred :)

Also, Boots have the tubs of SF on offer, they're £2.99 each at the minute, so get them from there if you can! :)

Hey, thanks for the comments!
Well done on losing 2lbs – that’s great :D
I definitely feel like I have lost something already, although maybe that’s just the light headed-ness, ahah!
I know what you mean about lack of free food.. not even fruit or cottage cheese! While I’m doing this (and I *AM* going to stick it out) it baffles me how sometimes I just wouldn’t stick fully to sw.. when I go back, hopefully after a 8 weeks (eeeek!) of eating like this I’ll be more in the mind of ‘eat, snack, eat, snack’ and have more portion control!

How’s your second week going? When does the hunger stop :p

sounds like it's all going well. I added the water and it's SOO much nicer.

Milkshake is BLERGH! But I know people who like milkshake and try it.. and can’t stomach it, so we’re lucky :p
Don’t worry.. have no intention of cutting out carbs… some people tend to be ‘know it alls’ with diets don’t they.
How did you find yesterday? Day 4 for me now! Eeek! To be honest I’m guesstimating a lot with the evening cals/making a smaller portion of a sw meal.
I’m also dreading the weekend, from last night! Ahaha another night out tonight, watch out the person that gives me full fat coke by accident, feel my slim fast wrath!
Good luck! And hope today has gone better for you, lovely x

Hi lovely! How are you getting on? Thanks for the tip! I will try it with 400… I always water it down, well with the crushed ice :p Soo I will be trying that for my lunch today (aha) will also get down to boots for those £2.99 bargains.

Keep it up love xx

Thanks hun!

53 and a bit days to go :p

Thursday April 12th - Day 3

Breakfast: Strawberry Shake
Snack: None
Lunch: Strawberry Shake
Snack: 4x Darylea cheese triangles
Dinner: Lasagne, Jacket Potatoe, Salad.
Snack: None
[ Homemade Lasagna (1 serving)
calories: 390, fat: 12g,

Jacket potatoe: average 300]

So I think I had stayed within my calories, since I skipped the snacks for meal.

Okay, so at work all day, that was fine… I felt hungry, but stuck to the SF plan.
After work I went out for ‘drinks’, which, for me consisted of about 9 diet cokes (I ship you not) and lots of toilet breaks!
Where we went to eat (someone’s birthday – argh!) had a really weird menu, and the choices were a variety of chips with toppings (including bacon and cheese?!) baquettes, rolls, chips, curry, pies etc.
So I had lasagne, which came with ‘chips, garlic bread and a salad garnish’ I asked for jacket potatoe over chips, as knew I would eat that first and thus not scoff on anything else (and I wouldn’t be able to resist the garlic bread otherwise)
It took me ages to eat the jacket potatoe, and by the time I’d ate a third of the lasagne it was going cold… so was pretty much full up really fast (that was STRANGE!) Can’t believe how ‘full’ I get, even with 100 calorie snacks. It’s such a bizarre feeling!

Today is alright so far, I like the feeling of going to sleep on a not full stomach! hahah

Anyway, onwards and upwards … Day 4, Shake 1 *holds nose*

p.s. Any tips on which shakes to get? Am going on a gander to boots on my way home from work :D

I wasn't too bad yesterday. I'm just guesstimating my meals as well by using MFP as a base. For Tea last night I had Sausages (2) Mash (just a tiny bit of skimmed milk and no butter) veg and a little bit of gravy. That's a roundabout 600cal (ish).

I managed to turn down pizza which is good and very unlike me. I'm finding that by 4.30pm and again at 10pm i'm starving and if i'm at work it's really hard going. but i'm battling on as I really need to shake this weight.

Good luck with the weekend. I have sat and sun all planned out.

Sat - Shake - snack - Mcdonalds happy meal (treat and still around 600cals) snack - shake - snack.

Sunday - Shake - snack - Shake - Snack - Roast Dinner (childs size) - Snack.

It's hard because i'm working 4-8 on sat and 3-midnight on sunday.
