Slipped discs...

DQ

Queen of the Damned
....well aloha all!! I've been MIA since Monday afternoon. I was referred to A&E by my physio. To my horror, they kept me in  Was totally unprepared and a bit shocked.

Anyway, following an MRI scan, various examinations, and two nights in hospital I have been told I have 2 - 3 slipped discs. At present I have been given more painkillers, instructed to keep mobile, and wait for an appointment with the specialist to talk through what happens next.

It has been a bit of a nightmare to be honest, but am glad to be home again - hospital wasn't fun. :(

Anyone got any good ideas for handling the pain, etc while I wait for the appointment with the specialist?? :help2:

So after nearly 4 months thinking I had a bit of a bad back, and was starting to feel like a malingerer to be honest, at last I know what's wrong with me!!

Oh poor you D_Q .... gentle hugs!!

Not sure if it will work in this scenario, but my mum had a tens machine that she used for lower back pain and did help relieve it.

Take care xxxx

OMG you poor thing!!! Lucky your physio knew what they were doing!

I agree, TENS units can be really good in this situation. Or heat packs, because the warmth can help your muscles relax. I'd also recommend speaking to your physio and asking them, as maybe acupuncture might help, if your physio doesn't do it, there will be someone in the department who does. Keeping as active as you can will also help.

Thanks Bev and Dom. Am making sure I tootle about, but DH is helping me with hefty boxes and the like. When i see the physio I will ask about a Tens machine. I did have one before but it didn't work very well :(

Hiya Hunny
Hope your backs not playing you up too much!Make sure you take it easy!

I have been to the docs this morn' and i have torn a ligament in my back so i now have the rest of the week off work !
Think i'm gonna go crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Take care toots luv Julie XXX

I have to apologise - the painkillers I am taking now are heftier than before, so I tend to get in, see clients, look after my girls, then crash out :nightf:. The nice thing is I am back upstairs with my DH after 5 months sleeping on the sofa :(but it means no more late nights cos I am such a lightweight!!

I'm off on holiday for a week in Spain, but when I get back the physio starts, and seeing the consultant. Then it's time to get cracking for Christmas! :D

Oh D_Q :hug99: sorry your back is playing up heres lots of get well coming your way :vibes:. Hope you and your family have a fantastic time on your holls let us know how it went when you get back.:wavey:

Enjoy your jollies - hope your back feels better soon

Ails xx

Thanks peeps!! Have had a fab time shopping today but am paying for it tonight with incredible back pain. Loving having my girls to myself and can't wait to fly off to sunny Spain! :D

Well I bought a tens machine from Lloyds yesterday - £14.99 with half price replacement discs. Am wearing it today, and I need it - oldest is off school - she seems to have done something bad to her neck so am taking her to the Dr. Weird buzzing but definitely taking my mind off the pain! :p

Oh D_Q :hug99: I hope the tens machine helps, and hope your daughter is ok too.:)

She has torticolis (muscle spasms in her neck) and they have prescribed her diazepam. So that's two of us in the family high on painkilling drugs :silly:

Blimey, that sounds painful Paula :( :hug99:

I must admit the Tens machine has really helped. Spent the day doing my hair, and normally that makes my arms and back ache, rbut it's been fine! Fingers crossed it carries on, even if every now and then I do a funny jig when a particular jolt strikes me :giggle:
