Sins

Hi, I'm Sarah and I'm joining my local s/w group on thurs night and I was just wondering between the 5 to 15 sins allowed each day how many do people have on average? And do you save some up to 'spend' at the weekend on alcohol and/or takeaways?
Thanks I'm just a bit unsure how many I should have and if I can 'bank' some for Saturday nights?:)

HI and welcome to SW :D I use about 12 syns a day on average , you are best to start off using the upper end , then if your losses slow down when you get lighter you can drop them a bit .

A lot of people use their syns weekly ( 105) so they can have a takeaway , night out etc . I dont as I need some every day and dont go out very often , but it is fine to do it that way if it works for you :D

I take my syns as 105 over the course of the week, and *ahem* I'm ashamed to say, most of them go on wine at the weekend!

I try to keep my syns lower than 5 a day but I might allow more on the weekend if I'm going out drinking but I never have takeaways as I think home made Chinese/Indian tastes better. I sometimes have a pub lunch on the weekend but I still choose wisely. If I'm using extra syns for the weekend I make sure my syns are lower than 70 a week. I'm quite strict with my syn allowance but I loose about 2.5lb a week on average and have lost nearly a stone in 5 weeks.

Why are you trying to keep your syns as low as possible? Lower syns doesn't translate to bigger/faster losses. Even if you had the full 15 syns a day that is only 300 calories a day or 2100 over the week - so not even enough to contribute a 1lb loss.

Thanks everyone for your reply's I think I'm going to try 105 over the week and if I have more over the weekend then I will space the rest if them out from Monday to Thursday when I get weighed, I can't wait to go on Thursday to get started :).xxx

I know what your saying.. But the times I've had my 105 syns I've noticed a significant difference to the weeks where I've had less than 50. Its different for everyone I guess.. Maybe it's a psychological thing. Keeps me more focused with everything else? Perhaps..

I agree with determinator - definitely have your full syn allowance to begin with then as you get nearer target and you don't have much to lose, you can always adjust your syns if your losses slow down.

As for counting them daily or weekly, everyone is different and you'll find out what works best for you with trial and error.

One tip for you - if you do use them for alcohol then you must measure them out correctly. I use one of those little cups you get with a bottle of cough medicine - its marked on the side and just holds 25ml which equates to 2.5 syns of spirit.
