Just started SW, bit confused....

I started last week, joined with my daughter and her friend so we can support each other, but I have to say, I am a little confused at how full I feel.
Yesterday I ate a cooked chicken breast with a big salad for lunch, dinner was another chicken breast, huge pile of peas, mash and onion gravy, just cooked onion, and chicken oxo, so I am thinking it was free, but not sure.
Today I ate a ham and pea salad with HE cheese and small amount of salad cream, water added so I could drizzle it. Made a scaggy bolly walla, (grandaughter speak for spag bol), no packets, no jars, just fresh ingredients, lean mince and synned fresh parmesan. Had two bananas, 2 apples and some cherries.
Am I doing this right? I feel stuffed and surely that is not right when you are supposed to be dieting. I did WW years ago and it was horrible, I always felt hungry and was miserable most of the time, but I did lose weight. If I need to change something I would rather do it now. My weigh in is next Wed evening, and if I have messed up, I still have a few days to try and pull it back.

Sounds like you're on the right lines, as long as that's extra lean mince. Make sure you're having you healthy extras and eating enough superfree (fruit and non-starchy veggies).

Thanks for the reply. I put a mountain of shrooms and peppers into the bol, the salads are heaped up with all the right stuff, I just sprinkled a few frozen garden peas and used one slice of ham, the mince was extra lean steak mince, so I am hoping all is ok. I might lay off the bananas and eat more apples tho. I was shocked when I weighed in at 13 st 11 and half oon wednesday, I thought I was not much over 12 st, that's denial for you. :)
Am I supposed to feel so full? It's gone midnight and I never go to bed feeling so stuffed.

Just check you are having enough superfrees as previous poster said as peas are not superfree and not sure you have any other sf at that meal (except for the onions in the gravy)

But if a third of each plate is superfree then that is fine and the beauty of SW !

I always go to bed full! :) The spag seems like it's got a good amount of superfree. The odd meal that doesn't have a 1/3 superfree isn't the end of the universe, but you should aim for 1/3 superfree in each meal and superfree first for snacks. You don't have to lay off the bananas, theyre free! :)

Hi Jenxy and welcome to the forum. :welcome:

Today's menu sounds great to me - keep it up, don't worry, and I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised next week at WI.

Although SW emphasise the fact that there is very little weighing and measuring of food, and more importantly (for me, anyway) you can have as much free food as you want, what they mean is that you eat the free food until you are full. If you get hungry between meals then just snack on free foods (pref fruit) to curb your appetite. If you're doing extra easy then just remember to have 1/3 superfree with every main meal. If that fills you up then all well and good and you don't have to snack. But the point is, if you have a big appetite and are still hungry, you can eat to your heart's content.

Most of us on here love the fact that SW isn't a typical "diet", its a healthier way of eating, so if you like big portions, you can have them as long as you eat the right stuff.

And I have a banana every day.

Good luck with your weight loss journey.

I thought this when I first started 5 weeks ago and am still amazed at the amount of food I eat and still lose weight....
I eat more now than I ever did with my unhealthy before food, including chip us and chineses
But u stuck with it saying to myself - stick to what they say, allowing myself syns and all, and we will see if it works ( not expecting it to work but wanting to stick to it 100% so that if it didn't work I could at least say that it wasn't my fault)

I went into the first weigh in fully expecting to have put weight on and came out befuddled that I had lost 3.5lbs !!

It really does work and if you stick to under 15 syns you can still have your treats as well - believe me - I have biscuits and chocolate and still lose - it's great

As others have said the key is a third of your plate being superfree - most fruits and veg
I even have little divided plates lol I'm a fussy eater - dont like my foods to touch - I know - loony

Keep at it 1 You'll be happy on wed

hey i agree with what everyone else has said, you seem to be doing well, it is hard to get your head around the fact that you can eat until you are full and still lose weight, but the things you can eat freely are low in fat etc. im sure you will have a weightloss at first weigh in, keep us posted xx

Thanks for all the replies, it is brilliant to have somewhere like this to come, I have been reading the posts for a couple of days now and realise that I am not paddling my canoe on my own. It really makes you feel heartened to read about so many others achievements.
I thought garden peas were free, so thanks for putting me straight on that... I love them. I guess sweetcorn is the same then?
Have been exercising for 30 mins a day on wii fit as well, trouble is, I know that muscle weighs more then fat so I am not gonna get too excited about next wed, will swish on and let you know how I go tho.

I started 5 weeks ago and first week I felt the same as you! "how can I eat all this and LOOSE weight?!"

The statement in red = dangerous thing to say on this forum! Many an hour have been spent in hot debate over this.

All i'll say is - you aren't going to build muscle in one week, so don't worry about muscle vs fat for Wednesday :)

and sweetcorn isn't superfree :( makes me sad too.

Good luck with your weight loss!

xx
