To those of you who have done RTM.

Could I please ask what you RTM class is like. I am a returner - last time I did RTM for about 6 weeks but gave up because I didn't like how the class was run. It was very big and was more like a drop in rather than a class. I really like the intimacy of the closed group and we get to know each other.

I didn't feel that I knew anybody in the RTM class.

Are all RTM classes run like this?

TIA

One word of caution, I do have to remind you that the responsibility of completing RTM is down to you. It's just like maintaining weight in the long term - we can't put down our successes or failures down to outside factors such as not having a good enough class to go to.

Most of my LL and RTM journeys was actually done alone. LLC weighed me weekly, but because of how LL operated a few years ago - we couldn't join existing groups very easily and she didn't have enough people to start one which I could go to. You can't blame other people, LL, groups for your behaviour. :) Though, it does help to have a good LLC who you can talk to and depend on. I found this website and it's been an immense help - much more useful than any group was! So there are other things which can help you plan for the coming weeks of RTM and also guide you through as to how to keep the weight off for good.

Also remember that classes don't matter - simply because: You are not doing the weight loss/RTM for anyone else. You are doing it for YOU. If you give up, then you're giving up on yourself! Simple!!

Thanks for your reply Minerva - I do understand responsibility is down to me but the thought of doing the class in the same format is pretty depressing - I didn't learn anything and certainly didn't feel that I could ask the LLc aty individual questions - Will have to think lond and hard about how to approach this

Our RTM class is joined with the maintenance class so different people pop in all the time with the same RTM every week.

I finished RTM over 2 months ago but still go every week as a maintainer as it keeps me on the straight and narrow and I enjoy the classes.

We do still do councelling in most of the classes though and the others we talk about different food advice etc.

Our LLC in excellent and although I no longer pay she is very happy to answer any questions etc.

Our RTM and Maintenance classes are linked too. I still go as a maintainer - not every week, but often, as I find the groups and my LLC very helpful. Some weeks are better than others but then it depends on how I'm feeling, what others need or want to share etc, but on the whole it works really well. Good luck!!

Thing is, RTM is the winding down part of the diet - where you learn to spread your wings on your own.

The classes are not the same as before - thats where all the psych work is done - now you are learning the practical side of the dietl.

Try and view it with an open mind as a new and DIFFERENT phase of your journey. Everything changes - this is just the way life is.

You can still ask you LL questions, and you will get to know the group same as you did before. Remember, when you started LL it was with a room full of strangers - this is no different.

Good luck - and dont quite this time - it makes a HUGE difference to see it through.

:)
