Things that make us feel good that has nothing to do with food

For me, a big part of doing Cambridge as a SS was realizing that my relationship with food was quite messed up, I do think a lot of us might share that insight. It also helped me to find new ways to live - that does not involve food. I do eat when I get bored or feel bad (Might sound like a cliché but so true in my case.) Basiclly, eating has made me feel good, at least for the time being. So being on SS, it really made me think about what things in life I like and can do, that does not involve food. If any of you share this experience, it would be great to hear what you substitute your food with! If you have found new things in life that gives you a spark. Especially nice to have easy things to grasp on to those days when you feel tired and motivation might fall. Here is my toplist...

My toplist of things to make me feel good that has nothing to do with food.

1. Yoga (Whoho! So nice!)
2. Being really active and find new ways to hang out with friends that does not involve bagels/muffins/lattes.. Like walking, playing some silly game in the park, rideing rollercosters, whatever gives you a kick. Since food is so connected to the way we socalize, we might just isolate our selvs when on cambridge so we dont have to deal with temptations or feel silly when just drinking water. But actually, you'll do fine. I promise! And you will have a good time with just diet coke to.
3. Find ways to care for your body, like a footbath and a massage (how often do you really give your feet the attention they diserve? We walk around on them all day.. ) Things you can easily do at home. Take care of your self and appriciate your body for all the hard work.
4. Read a really good book, preferably outside in the sun.

For me, doing these things have been essential for the Cambridge success, they linger on with me long after SS. Sort of a lesson in how to live without hiding behind food. A bit cheesy perhaps, but, honestly true for me. :)

Take care all of you.

I've only just started SS but the things I do to distract myself from food and make me feel good are:

1. Reading a really good book.
2. Chatting to my friends. It's always good to have a real good natter with them.
3. Catch up on my telly shows...I have so many that I need to watch, so it's perfect with all the spare time.
4. Going out for a walk in the sun. :)

I am new to Cambridge diet but am so shocked to find myself not looking forward to the weekend after a busy week at work. Why.......because my whole social thing is hinged on food. I have two children and should be looking forward to spending some time with them but am dreading what we can do if we don't go for a meal at the Wacky warehouse, or MacDonalds, or a walk on the Chase stopping off at the cafe for ice cream,or a takeaway and a film. How sad that I can't think of anything else to do. Perhaps soul source will help me rethink my attitude to food because at the moment it appears to be my god!!.

Hi
I have taken up sewing. I am mad on Cath Kidston and am making scented love hearts to hang up on doors etc and have treated myself to clarins firming body cream and lots of lancome lotions and potions and I have been spending time doing beauty stuff and my nails.

That's exactly what I mean! I really understand that feeling, "now what do I do." But there are so many things! I hope you come up with a few. Take your kids bowling or ice skating if they are grown up enough? Do something active, be outdoors, find a nice park or a spot to just hang out or play games... I hope you came up with something that suits you! I know it's kind of, mind-blowing when you realize how much of the things in life that you enjoy that you have connected to food... GOOD LUCK!

Tabbyx/KateNicholson; Those are good stuff, I like the whole taking care of your self concept.. :p For me, that's a good reminder to actually appreciate my body as well, and all it does for me. Not just.. Be angry at it for being to heavy. The TV-shows though, I have such a hard time, whenever I'm inactive and watch TV I SOO miss eating, it's crazy how connected that is to food for me...
