Pasta is free so why not wraps?!

Hi, I'm going to go to my first meeting on Wednesday and I'm just trying to get my head around the diet before then. The one thing that I'm immediately struggling with is the fact that on green pasta is free, wholemeal bread can be used as a healthy extra, but tortilla wraps/pitas/flat breads have lots of syns!

Pasta and wraps are essentially the same ingredients. I make my own wraps (not wholemeal)... so why aren't they free?!

Thanks
Charlotte

I'm not too sure but it might be because wraps, pitta naan etc are made with oil as an ingredients whereas pasta is basically just egg and flour.
I think some pittas can be used as a HeB but it has to be wholemeal and certain brands.

I make my own just with flour, water and flavourings. Sometimes 1 squirt of fry light to cook but I believe that's free. Maybe I can still have them then? :)

I think it's all to do with how filling it will be for the ingredients used. Although pasta is free flour is generally synable in other uses.

Its because whatever makes a healthy extra isn't in the wraps.

If you making your own with flour make sure you use the SW friendly wholemeal flour.

Not all wholemeal pittas, wraps etc can be used as hex, it's best to check first.

Thanks for replying! I understand why some wholemeal is classed as a healthy extra but I'm still puzzled as to why non-wholemeal pasta is free when something made from the same ingredients wouldn't be. :(

It is because pasta is always going to be part of a filling meal. Bread type items are always going to be limited because they are something that can be easily over consumed.

Slimming world carefully select health extra by a number of factors, hence why there is only a limited choice available.

If we are to trust the diet, then we really need to trust their advice and not make up our own SW rules.

Like someone mentioned you could perhaps use the Tesco wholemeal bread mix to make your own, buy you would need to make sure your measurements are correct to qualify as a healthy extra. They certainly won't be free, because flour of any kind is not free. If it was we would all be able to make various cakes etc and lets face it, no one would lose weight and slimming world wouldn't be very successful.
