Ankle pain from exercise?

Hi not sure if this is the right section to post this but here goes! I have been doing a weight loss DVD for around a week now which includes alot of jogging and jumping abd star jumps. The last day or two I have noticed that my ankles are aching alot to the point of quite nasty pain. So before this DVD I did minimal exercise, just a few walks a week etc and I am currently 14 stone. Was just wondering if anyone knows if this is normal?! It may sound silly but I feel as though maybe my body weight is too much for my ankles?! Any advice/suggestions gratefully received! x

Hmm any injury or pain should be checked out immediately regardless. Strap your ankle up and go to your GP. It may be that you're landing heavily on that particular ankle, the tendons supporting the muscle aren't strong enough etc. etc. There are any number of reasons but to me, after only a week of doing the DVD, it doesn't sound particularly normal.

Sorry forgot to say it is both ankles! I think I may skip that part of the DVD for a few days and see if they get any better, if not will go to the doctors. Thankyou x

Hi hun, I have recently had the same problem and stopped exercising for a while to try to let my ankles heal but managed to do my knee in instead as I was walking funny! Best thing to do is get some good footwear for exercising, even if it is just a DVD, and keep your feet elevated whenever you can while resting. The odd ice pack or hot water bottle really helps too, ice pack right after exercise and hot water bottle in bed. Also, watch how you sleep! I sleep on my side so my ankles are always bent (can't explain it in any other words!) but sleeping on your back might help :) Oh and there was something else...... oh yeah! Ankle supports/knee supports do you the world of good :) xxx

Fabulous thankyou! Think that may be the problem- I don't wear any footwear whilst doing it and am doing it on my hard kitchen floor! Will have a rest with this particular exercise for a few days and buy some suitable footwear at the weekend- great excuse for some retail therapy! Thanks again x
