i want to lose weight, i truly truly do! so why oh why do i keep sabotaging myself.... i had a great day yesterday till 4.30pm when i binged! then my oh came home and i was good again but the binge was so so bad! im truly disgusted. any tips or advice would be great. im off for 1 weeks holiday as the kids are off for the easter hols. normally im fine at work but im struggling this week. HELP! xx

How much had you eaten up until 4.30? How much exercise had you done earlier that day? How many cals did you eat in your binge? x

You need to figure out why you binged - as Lindsay asked - had you not eaten much throughout the day? Was it an emotional trigger? Were you bored? (Boredom is an emotional trigger, people don't often realise this). Was it just because the food was there? Once you figure out why you did it, you can figure out a plan of prevention to help stop you doing it again ^^

id eaten 638 cals uptill 4.30pm, id done 45mins aerobics and also done general housework. i prob ate bout 700 cals in my binge then had my meal with oh which was 530cals. i know added up its under 2000 but my aim is to stick to 1200 or under. just stocking up on the water front today, my worst habit is i dont drink enough so i often confuse thirst for hunger. my aim is to drink first if hungry and increase my protien and complex carbs....... fingers crossed. xx

definately boredom.... maybe should log on here first? as i say im fine when im working. i dont wana return to work bigger than when i left.... i dont binge when my oh is home. just need to occupy myself till he gets home today. my youngest son and i are gonna build a train track and a fort.... the eldest is helping his dad at work. ( hes going through a " i hate school and wish i was working " faze so my oh offered to show him what a days work is like.... uhoh!!! xx

I do exactly the same. Good all day then around an hour before oh is due home binge. Then I pretend I've been good all day and he never knows. Try to make yourself busy at this time of day, I spend all day playing with my son then around 3ish start the housework preparing dinner and lunch for the next day to stop myself eating. Hope this helps x

I am completely the same; which is why all my attempts at losing weight have failed in the past. I'm good until that horrible point mod-afternoon when it feels like lunch was four years ago and dinner is in a decade. Here's what I found helped:

1) I do a workout dvd in the afternoon. This is my prime time to get bored and hungry and eat and so by doing this excercise I achieve two things: I occupy at least a half hour of my time thus reducing the boredom but also, once I've excercised I find I don't want to ruin my hard work by eating.

2) I personally eat five small meals a day and each meal has at least some protein. Protein can stop the signal the stomach sends to your brain to tell you you're still hungry. I know that you said the problem was boredom, but I found that with my boredom eating it helps to keep eating 5 small meals. Even just calling them meals helps! rather than breakfast, lunch, dinner and 2 snacks I call them meal 1, meal 2 etc. etc. It makes them sound more filling.

It might help if you made your meals opposite. As in, breakfast was bigger than lunch, lunch bigger than dinner, and dinner the smallest of the lot? That way your stomach is full right from the get go and you're topping up, rather than eating everytime your hungry. Does that make sense? I don't think I made any sense there =s

I hope I've helped and good luck!

thanks! im gonna spring clean! my son is watching despicable me ( i love that film... "ITS SO PINK AND FLUFFY!!!" ) and gonna do a good tidy then make a fort! hopefully thatll take me till preparing the meals for tonight. think ill do an online shop... thatll be easier.

thanks again its great to know someones listening xx

I think if you worked out your Net Cals for yesterday you won't feel so bad. 2000 minus how many you burnt doing aerobics will be your net cals. So if 2000 is what is recommended for a woman to maintain any less than that in my books is a good day. After your aerobics it's likely your net cals were 1700ish which is actually a good day!!!

Don't be so hard on yourself. I find that if I've not eaten enough cals on a day where I've worked out then my body is craving the energy and if I'm not conscious about this then I can make bad food choices. Make sure you increase your cals on a day when you exercise then it's less likely to result in your body crying out for energy.

Haha me and my friends love that one line and we apply it to anything and just randomly shout it. Yeah, cause we're not in our twenties or anything =/ =\
