Kickboxing class... too ambitious??

I've been thinking about trying to take some kind of exercise class. I live in a fairly rural area and the only class actually where I live is a 1 hour kick boxing class once a week, it's a mixed ability and age class. Am I being too ambitious by even considering it? It COULD be fun and is meant to be great exercise, I'm just not sure whether it's going to be too difficult for me at the moment at my weight and size.

I think it's a great idea! I did kick boxing when I was the high end of 16 stone and it's the best way to sculpt your body, it shapes you as well as burning calories. Woman up and go for it! lol!

I'm more like high end of 19 stone though! I've sent an email to the instructor asking his opinion. Part of me is terrified by the idea of public exercise at something which involves skill! The other part of me thinks it's something that I might actually really enjoy. I'm thinking depending on what he says, I could always go along to one or two and see how I do with them. I know that it's a 2 hour session but I can choose whether I stay for 1 hour or 2 hours. One of the ladies at work goes and takes her daughter with her and the 2 girls she childminds.

Give it a go!!! I'd love to go to kickboxing but I have a knee injury that means I can't at the moment, so I'm starting body combat instead XD

I say give it a go too, sounds like fun. If you got no close classes and want variation I'd get some aerobics DVDs they are great fun, not having to go out is a bonus when motivation is low, and there's tons out there. I'd recommend Rosemary Conley whole body workout as a good one to start with as she does lower level and high level. Good luck exercising makes a massive difference to weight loss and changing your shape x

I've had the DVDs before, I get them, do them for a bit and then just end up fizzling out and forgetting about it! I figure that a class might keep me going more! Am waiting back for an email from the instructor. Thanks for all the replies, they've got me all motivated!

I definitely think you should go for it! I don't think your weight will be an issue because, with every class I've been to, they've always told you to take it at your own pace and the instructor will understand. Also, you have to start somewhere and while the first few classes are going to be BRUTAL pretty soon you'll be slim and toned! My personal experience with any new excercise I've tried is to give it at least a month, by then I should be seeing some benefit and if I'm not and I hate it, then I go find something new. =)

Still waiting to hear back, found a boxercise class not too far away too so considering that as well. Have emailed them too so we'll see I guess! I think a class will be much better for me than the gym. Once the pool opens again in May I think I'm going to drag my sister swimming with me once or twice a week too. Thanks for all the encouragement everyone!
