Paris recommendations?

Woman on a mission!
Hiya

Oh has booked a trip to take me to Paris for my 30th in the summer (ahh!).

We are staying in a cool hotel in Montmatre, so just wondering if anyone has any hints / tips / recommendations for that area or Paris overall?

thanks xx

Me and hubby visited Paris going on 5 years ago. We did all the tourist attractions and had an amazing time.
We visited the Louvre which was fab - wear good shoes though as the floors are very hard. At the time they did a discount ticket if you visited in the evening, not sure if they still do that.

The view from the Arc de Triomphe is fabulous - well worth a trip

Pick your time to go up the Eiffel tower well - when we went up we could barely see anything, we came down and 5 mins later it was beautiful clear skies!! So just bear that in mind.

And my biggest tip if you're not fussy about what you eat is to leave the beaten track for your lunches and evening meals - the prices are hiked up to the 'expensive Paris' people go on about near the tourist areas, however if you travel up a couple of side streets you'll find some fabulous restaurants and bars offering prix fixe menus which are really reasonable but obviously your choice is more limited. We didn't end up spending much at all because of this. AND ate some of the most amazing food (delicious steaks, fois gras, omelettes and croques moiseurs)

Oh and get a travel card for the Metro - it's fab. We used it the whole trip and it's so easy to get around.

Have an amazing time. We were thinking of visiting again before the baby arrives (as we probably won't have chance afterwards!) but I got put off by all the delicious food and wine I wouldn't be allowed to eat!!

ps - Sorry about my bad French spelling!

I know it's totally touristy but I always like doing the river trip down the Seine. I also liked the Pompidou centre because it looked so weird and interesting (and there were lots of pubs and bars nearby!)

There's a beautiful bookshop near the Notre Dame, if you're into that sort of thing - Shakespeare and Company. I loved it, really quaint and unusual, packed to the rafters with all sorts of quirkiness.

Make sure you keep your valuables safe.. goes without saying, I know, but I had my camera pick-pocketed at the Bastille, so even though I know we went to loads of places and had a great time, I struggle to remember specifics without the photos :(

Oooooh fab - me and my bestie went to Paris last year for a weekend and loved it! She booked us on to a free walking tour around Montmartre which is hosted by students in the City - it was fab and the only charge is a tip to them at the end of it - lasted about 2 hours and was great! xx Welcome to City Free Tour

PS Chris took our tour and he was really well informed and a great tourguide x
