I suppose it depends how much you want to stick to the rules of the plans. You may have got away with it because the calorie content of the rest of your food was relatively low. So overall you were still in a calorie deficit. This will not necessarily be the case for everyone so better to know the official line and make a informed decision on whether to follow it.
 
The low fat ones are syn free (just can be a bit of a bugger finding them in the shops). There's not many flavours in the low fat ones either.
